I just got in my first car accident........While giving report on the phone.
I'm ok, it was mild, but Please fellow nurses.. THINK TWICE about doing the same. FYI

Hello everyone! I am new here, this is my first posting. But, I have to say, I've given report while driving, too... I use an earpiece, though... I'm glad you're okay, bay.
Its very tempting for busy nurses to utilize their driving time for phone calls. I regularly have to remind staff to pull over somewhere or call me back when they arrive at their destination. I am especially adamant about not talking to them while they are driving when the weather conditions are hazardous. It is dangerous to them AND irresponsible to jeopardize others on the road with your inattention. You only need one accident or very close call to learn this lesson.

You are SOOO right. I hope that you are OK. I have given report while driving on many occasion and I have been very lucky. I use an ear piece, but research shows that this is dangerous, as well.
Hi all..
Just wanted to reply about why I was giving report. I admit, I was totally wrong, and I'm embarrassed, because my supervisor has said many times over, NOT to give report while driving. Granted, the snow did play a factor, I'm sure my reflexes would have responded better had I not been on the phone. This is humbling to bring up on the thread, however, if it stops someone else from doing it, It's worth it!
Oh yes, it is great to bring it up! Even though I preach this all the time, I STILL break my own rule sometimes when I am rushed and have to remind myself that its not worth the risk.
