After reading the thread about on-call, I noticed a few of you had posted what you get for mileage. We are having a debate in our office about the amount that we are reimbursed. The official IRS rate is 50.5 (I believe) cents a mile. We are at 44 cents per mile. In the year and a half that I have worked there the IRS rate has gone up as gas prices have gone up. Our rate has not changed.

My question is, what do you get reimbursed for mileage and has it increased since the gas price have skyrocketed?

We want to go to corporate about this as the prices for gas in New Jersey are lower then almost everywhere in the country and we are feeling it. I cannot imagine how the nurses for our company in California, with their high gas prices are handling it. My cost per mile has risen from 11 cents to 19 cents. When we brought it up to the administrator, she had a cat-that-ate-the-canary smile on her face. Could be that she knows that others pay less (and I have seen that on the post about on-call), but I know that at least one hospice in our area pays 50 cents a mile.

I get travel reimbursement for my mileage and yes indeed, we are reimbursed at the $0.505/mile! With gas at $3.45 /gal, I need the extra money.

WOW!!! 3.45/gal!! Here in south Jersey we have been hovering around 3.00, but I could usually get gas for 2.95-2.99 until this week when it shot up to 3.11 yesterday. And you should hear us complain! We really are spoiled. We don't have to pump it either as New Jersey does not allow self serve gas.

Wow - I need to move! Yep, here yesterday $3.45 was a bargain, most places its $3.50! And...destined to go up. I live about 30 miles from one of my offices so the mileage pay adds up.

Just paid $3.41/gal here in Central FL. And we get the government reimbursement rate. And a few times, our agency actually gave all field employees a $25 gas card!!

Up until this month I got .20 a mile, and we are in LA!!!! Now it is .35 a mile. Is it any wonder that our RN who drives a Suburban wants me to use my Honda Accord when we go places.

I work in Texas and the company I currently work for pays the 50.0 cents per mile. Unfortunately, we have just been bought out by a company that only pays their employees 44 cents per mile. They are going to give us 48 cents when the takeover takes effect...makes me nuts...the gas prices aren't going down...

We reimburse at government rates. Keep in mind that you can claim any unreimbursed mileage on your federal taxes if you file long form--you can deduct oil changes, and other car maintenance as well if you use your vehicles for your job. Gas here in our midwest town is $3.61/gal. I have one of those cars that require 93 Octane so I am at $3.81/gal--with a 26 gallon tank, I am spending $100 on a tank of gas. Our staff is trying to ride together on some of our outlier visits and we try to cluster visits in similar areas as often as possible.

With one exception, my employers have always paid nothing for mileage. No problems for them.
