Smile Re: I Got The Job!!!!!

Hi,
I'm new to hospice nursing and work with a great team. I recently purchased the book - Textbook of Palliative Nursing (expensive but great!). Inside there was a chapter with a section called Stages Of Adaptation for the Hospice Nurse. Stage 1 starts at 0-3 months and it progresses through stage 5 (12-24 months). I brought copies in for everyone and it was so helpful for everyone to understand what a brand new or relatively new nurse to hospice might be experiencing (some of the staff have been hospice nurses for 10+ years. Plus the book has really practical information on symptoms, causes etc. Good luck. As my stage(1) says.... I am anxious, agreeable, familiarizing myself with policies and procedures, providing tangible services, using emotional energy in understanding the setting ...................... I love it - can't wait to get to stage 5! I hope you are as lucky as I am in having such supportive team members.

Congratulations! that is excellent news. I don't have any tips but nurselearner's book sounds like it would be good to read. Enjoy your new job.

Congratulations! No real advice just wanted to say that it is a wonderfully rewarding experience and you will learn more from your patients then you could possibly imagine. You'll do great!

Re: I Got The Job!!!!!

Thank you all so very much! I am really excited. Will keep you all posted on how it goes. My first day of orientation is July 24, but the building doesn't open until September, not sure of what we will be doing until then.
