How is your medical director?

I gotta tell ya! I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE mine. I have never met a doc as sweet and down to earth as the medical director for our Hospice. It sure is a pleasure to have this, after 8 years of cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and residants! So how about it? Are hospice docs nicer or am I just lucky?

Re: How is your medical director?

Ours isn't. It's all businesss. He's new to hospice and thinks he has all the answers. He's always wanting to teach us something, but the thing is, our nurses all have 5+ years in hospice nursing. He doesn't like it when we question anything. The hospice I used to work for had the same kind of medical director you are describing. Team was interesting and you could bounce ideas off each other. Now we just try to get through with it.

He's wonderful. Ethical, kind and knowledgeable. Maybe a bit chauvinistic but in a charming sort of way. He likes to suggest rather than be autocratic. We are very fortunate to have him on our team.

Re: How is your medical director?

I love my med director too. She is wonderful. Very knowledgeable, wonderful teacher, and allows a great deal of autonomy. I tell her what I want or write out the order and she just signs it 9/10 times. Occasionally she will question why I want something, but when I tell her why, she says good idea and sign my dotted line.
