My husband probably has a job we have been waiting for which means I can change jobs and switch to Hospice (lower pay) which is why I haven't made the change even though it is what I have wanted for awhile.

I haven't even applied yet and I see there are several aspects of Hospice so am wondering if you can explain the responsibilities to me. I am an L&D nurse so which would be best given that info. Just a brief summary. What typically are the hours. Is it either during the week or weekends or both? Days or nights or both? How are the benefits as a rule do they match with say 50% for retirement? Just curious from your facility as I know there will be differences.

I think the answers to your questions are going to be different as each agency does things slightly different. At our hospice the nurses work 8-4, M-F, no on-call(we have full time on call staff) but we do work every 4th weekend seeing patients who need to be seen on the weekends(schedueled visits), we have a day off the week before and a day off the week after the weekend that we work. We case manage approx. 12 patients. Hope that helps.

We do 8-5 M-F, no call, no weekends or holidays. We have full time on-call nurses that only do nights and weekends - and holidays. Our inpatient facility has 8 and 12 hour shifts available. We have a great 401 K - one of the best I've ever seen, and really good PTO benefits.
