Great books you'd recommend

Hi! I was wondering what hospice books you would recommend...either specifically for nurses or just good resources. Thanks!

Dying Well by Dr. Ira Byock is a good one and my personal favorite is Kitchen Table Wisdom by Dr. Rachel Remen. Kitchen Table Wisdom is about what we learn from each other and about ourselves via the stories we tell.

Mandee,

I am not sure if you are looking for a clinical book or not but if so, I LOVE the book "Symptom Control in Hospice and Palliative Care" by Peter Kaye. It is my very favorite all around Hospice book and it is portable enough to go in your nursing bag or keep in your car for a reference. I've had it a long time and I don't really remember where I got it but I am sure you can find a copy somewhere.

I also like Dying Well by Ira Byock.....he is terrific and I'd read anything he wrote.

On Death and Dying by Elizabeth Kubler Ross. I thought it was a wonderful book and had wonderful stories about how patients felt about their poor prognosis.

Final Gifts is a great book for HCPs and families. Personal experiences composed by nurses. I've read it several times and I loan it to family members to help them understand the dying process. Dying well is also great!

I agree, Final Gifts is the most awesome I've read so far. Tuesdays with Maury is excellent also...For references...I have found that a book for ALS, BY David Oliver...Palliative care in MND, has so much about palliative care in general that I love it.
