Do Hospice Nurses Want Shadows?

I've signed up to volunteer at a local hospice. I would do office work, promo work, visits, etc. But (as a soon-to-be nursing student) what I'd really like to do is shadow a nurse so I could see what the job was like.

As a volunteer you may be able to arrange this. It may also be part of your nursing program curriculum.

Mar-Lynn... Yes Hospice's do have shadowing programs. Ours is connected with the local Nursing School. The nursing students follow our nurses on visits twice weekly as a part of their clinical experience.

Before I took the job at the Hospice I now work at, I was offered the opportunity to shadow a nurse for a day to see what it was all about. As a new grad, this being my first LPN job, I jumped on the opportunity. I didn't want any surprises after taking the job, and I feel that this gave me great insight into the guts of how things run.
