Copies of original Orders

Just a question about copies of orders. I make a copy of the original order to keep with the MAR until the physician signs the original and it is safely in the chart. (of course
across the copy it is writting in highlighter COPY).

Secretary is having a "fit" over these copies, even the administrator says "getting the originals back isn't an issue" don't make a copy....

Isnt it better to have a copy with the MAR's until you have that original safely in the chart? What if the original gets misplaced? Just a thought. The secretary knows everything and nothing EVER gets misplaced in such an "efficient" office setting.

thanks

Re: Copies of original Orders

All my orders are written in triplicate. Original to DR, Yellow to chart/MAR, pink for me to remind me to place on IDG note. Works great!!!!!!!!!

Re: Copies of original Orders

Mazzi is right, your secretary is wrong. YOu should ALWAYS have at least one copy of the physiucian order--if the secretary has nothing to track on getting orders back in a timely manner (a copy that is still in the chart 10 days later), I bet she has 100% compliance!!!!!

Re: Copies of original Orders

You definitely need a copy. Someone might actually need to look at those orders so that they can care for the patient. The state would also expect to see the orders on the chart if they were to come in for a survey. Actually, there's many reasons why a place-holding copy of the orders should be there in addition to the very real possibility that you never know if you may see that original again once it leaves the office.
