communicable diseases in hospice?

Hi Folks.

I'm working on a report for school about communicable diseases that are fairly common in hospice (it's going to be a supplemental for CNAs, hopefully). I know about HIV/AIDS, MRSA, and the Hepatitis strains...any that I'm missing?

Thanks very much for your help!

Re: communicable diseases in hospice?

You can and will get every type of communicable disease in Hospice as you get everywhere else. If they fall under the 'reportable diseases', hospice can get them too. Sometimes you don't know until after admission. I live on the Mexican border, so my list includes TB, which I have been exposed to and medicated for. For a list of the diseases, call your local health department. All communicable diseases must be reported to the health department in your county. This also includes children's diseases, although we don't have as large a population of children in our hospice.
