Atlanta Area Hospices

I am currently finishing an internship at an inpatient hospice unit. After this I intend to pursue employment doing hospice care in the field. I am not a new nurse, but am new to hospice and want to find a company that provides a great orientation and cutting edge hospice care. I also prefer to do case management M-F with no weekends or night call. Anyone live in the Atlanta area that can recommend a particular company? Thanks...

all hospices will require call from a case manager. Hospice advantage is opening an office in Ellijay, GA in the next few months.

Re: Atlanta Area Hospices

Thanks, AtlantaRN. I have been told by one company already that their full-time CMs do not take call on nights or weekends. Now whether that is actually the case, I do not know. The issue of being on call is important to me, but will not likely be the deciding factor, unless everything else is equal. I live in Forsyth County and will be looking at companies that serve this territory.

Re: Atlanta Area Hospices

i've been with hospice advantage for 1.5 yrs, and just this next month will I be getting a real break...I'll only be on call for 3 nights. It's from closing time at the office until 830am the next morning. I prefer to be on call on sundays because then I can adjust my schedule during the week....if i'm out for 6 hours on sunday, i'm working 6 hrs less during the week.

I prefer the autonomy of hospice field work to the hospital setting, but you have to watch your agency....they will try to kill you by adding more and more responsibilities. Take care of yourself first or there will be no YOU to take care of others.
