cardio, strength training and yoga all take care of stress in my world...I find this to be the best gift to give myself, thus it affects those around me when I reduce my stress load and live a more peaceful and serene life, especially in this hurried world!

Bikram Yoga fanatic here. I live close to a studio. I had severe rotator cuff pain before going - now it's nearly gone - but flares up if I don't go for a week or two.
Demanding, challenging, painful work while there - like rehab - in a very hot room. Must be very hydrated, prepared to sweat and to even cry when no one is watching.
The instructor says, isn't it better to endure 90 minutes of suffering/pain here but have no pain during the remainder of your day? I have to agree. She's right.

I agree Shawna, I love love Bikram. There's a studio here that offers employees of my hospital a dicount. I used to go faithfully and really after a while didn't find it to be suffering at all.
I do a Power Yoga at a studio closer to home once a week. Now that is suffering. LOL I do a more gentler class Sunday AMs.

Yeow! Bikram! Power!
My 2 cents... I love Iyengar and do it faithfully at least 2-3 times a week now. I keep house at the studio in exchange for free unlimited classes. I love the arrangement. Iyengar style fits nicely with my perfectionistic tendencies...kneecaps to the sky, triceps in... reach....
My chronic neck and trap issues finally released with yoga and now I feel relaxed as long as I keep doing it. Chiropractor, PT, neither helped like yoga does.

Yoga is Great for Stress Management
|
|
HI All,
I came across your site and I know from some friends that are nurses that it can be very stressful. I am a yoga instructor and yoga is a great way to relieve stress, sleep better, prevent back and neck aches, and have an overall disposition about life.

"I tried practicing yoga at home, but then here i am, trying this downward-facing dog position, and my real dogs crash into the room and plow me over."
I love this visual...ahh..sillly creatures!
But really, yoga is great...I've been doing it regularly for the last 6 months or so and I've only been sick with a cold ONCE this winter (Unusual for me, it's usually more often). I tend to do an Ashtanga Flow style of yoga. Tried that hot yoga, and very nearly passed out, but I hear some people swear by it.
