As a student I just couldn't bring myself to spend the kind of money the gym's wanted so I just do basic stretching every morning and every evening before going to bed. 3-4 days a week I do about 1 hours worth of work on the fitness ball. I also walk to school (45 mins. with books each way) every day I have class and run on days I don't walk to school.

That combined with a pretty well balanced diet (I do enjoy my ice cream on these hot summer nights) seems to work really well for me. The stretching also helps to relieve any stress that has built up while sleeping or during the day so I'm usually pretty loose and relaxed.
To ease your mind, i'm all about the same things. I started running for ease, found a friend with whom i did a 4 hour bike ride today, snowboard, walk 20 minutes to work nearly every day, swim in friend's pools, hike around city and woods, do push ups and "self-resistance" training. Self actually had some good home exercise routines as part of their get in shape for summer issues.

You don't need a gym. Some people find it to be a motivator, which is cool. i thought about getting a short term personal trainer to get some suggestions for home work-outs to get rid of trouble areas, but you don't need a gym for that anymore either.
They are very pricey without discounts, and complicated. You have to drive or walk there, get changed, go work out, figure out what you want to do with all those pieces of equipment....
The only one i would join would be one with at least a meter pool =)

Re: What type of exercise do you do??

Before having children I used to do Jazzercise 1-2 hours a day and lost 50 pounds in no time. Currently I have bought a TurboJam video and get exhausted eating a bag of chips just watching the video..I am hopeing to get excited and try it one day but the ole bod just don't move like it used to maybe I should try the dancing granny video(they get to exercise while sitting in a chair)

Re: What type of exercise do you do??

I need to drop about 15 lbs...

I run a couple miles and do free weights about 4 days a week - I'm trying to up that to about 6 days a week.

While I have noticed a marked difference in my upper body (strength and shape) and I have also noted an increased endurance on the treadmill ... my weight has remained where I started.

Despite me limiting my junk food and meat intake.
Y'all think I ought to start doing some cardio or something?

I miss riding a bike and swimming.

I'm still hopeful though - it's only been two weeks.

First off, don't weigh yourself on a scale because it just isn't accurate. Go by how your clothes fit or a tape measure. I recenly threw out my scale and am soooo glad I did, I now go by how my clothes fit. I have a pair of jeans I want to fit back into so I try them on every other week to check my progress. I have no clue at this point how much I weigh and I really don't care.

I think your doing good if your doing both weights and cardio. I enjoy cardio but I think weights are actually better when your trying to lose weight because the more muscle you have, the more calories your burning day and night.

Have you check your calorie intake on something like fitday.com That helps me, but everyone is different.

I'm no expert but we all have to find what works for us. If you don't think what your doing is working (though I think 2 weeks isn't enough time) then change it around. Keep up the intensity and your consistency and I can't see how you can't lose weight! 15 pounds isn't much so it will take longer than someone trying to lose 40 pounds. You might only lose 1 pound a week (which is GOOD) compared to someone weighing more who is losing 2 pounds a week.

Re: What type of exercise do you do??

even though it is winter, i still find time with school and work (5 or 6 ams or sometimes right before work) . I have also had tons of injuries including dislocated knees, shoulders etc so working out really helps my body feel good especially at work! I start by weight lifting the proper way(form, sets, concentration of muscles, etc) 3 times a week. I also do High Intensity Interval training 3 days a week on my off days which helps me too (burns more calories than standard cardio in less time). Pretty soon, i'm going to switch up routines and start supersetting (no rest between sets and exercises, overworking muscle groups..e.g ABC body building program). I also try to stay healthy (take vitamins/minerals everyday, try to eat right (and enough to support my body size/workouts) and drink lots of water). During spring i will start to mix in sports as well (soccer, bball, hockey, baseball, etc) Good Luck! : )

Re: What type of exercise do you do??

I do cardio exercise 4 to 5 times weekly at the health club. I'll mix the type of exercise up with jogging, stair climbing, and the elliptical machine.

I also lift weights twice weekly, only with free weights.

Re: What type of exercise do you do??

I currently work out about four times a week at Bally's. I use the elliptical machine for 45 minutes and weight training for another twenty minutes.

Re: What type of exercise do you do??

I just started exercising a couple of months ago. This is my last semester in nursing school and I'm tired of being unhealthy.
I'm currently working out at the "Y" 3 times a week. I cross train for cardio on the treadmill, recumbent bike, elliptical trainer, and stair master. Then I use a mix of cybex machines, free weights, and that big bouncy ball to train my upper and lower body and abs.
When life is too busy to get to the gym, I have some DVDs and equipment to use at home: The S Factor Workout (level 1), Anna Caban Pilates workouts, and a new one I have not opened yet: The New York City Ballet workout. I may try that one out this weekend.
