It's good to listen to your body.

Realizing how cruel factory farms are has really hit home to me the past year in the age of YouTube.

If anyone is interested in seeing "Meet Your Meat", I'll link it. It's been around a long time, but the conditions haven't changed much.

Disclaimer: Very graphic material.

Disclaimer 2: No offense to Allnurses members who are farmers, who were raised on farms, etc.

None Taken! The problem with those films is that they just reak of a propaganda machine. I'm not saying that some of the conditions in those places are acceptable however. My sister is a veggie, for all the wrong reasons I feel. Its more social than anything else with her. It seems that so many vegetarians (especially vegans) have such a holier than thou attitude (present company excluded of course!) when in fact thier knowlege about nutrition is severley limited. I just can't stand the "you're evil because you eat meat" attitude. Anyone who is disciplined enough to live and eat truley healthy by eating no meat, has my respect. The vast majority of the meat eaten in my home comes from one of two places; my backyard, or the wilderness. I'm hoping to be chosen as a winner of the moose lottery this year, I should be able to fill my freezer with one shot! You know the old saying,
There's room for all of gods creatures....................right next to the mashed potatoes.

I'm 100% vegetarian and 99% vegan. I rarely get diarrhea but when I do the anti-diarrhea pills don't seem to work for me. It seems the only thing that works is eating cheese.

Re: The Vegetarian Thread

Husband has been a veggie I think since he was at school and over time his family apart from his father followed over. It doesn't bother me not eating meat as much as even before I met him I wasn't a big meat eater but do like chicken. I do like quorn although some does give me indegestion where others don't bother me, have also noticed a lot of UK supermarkets have started doing their own version of meet free. Hubby knew he may have a few problems coming over here and I will be glad once my cook books and other shipped stuff arrives and then I can cook more things for him. Can't see point in buying more cook books when I have more than enough on the way Going to cook him a torfu and spinach curry for tea, normally would use Paneer but haven't seen that on sale here in NS so going to use torfu instead. Paneer if no one knows of it is a hard cheese which can be fried/cooked and keeps its shape. Could make it once I get stuff sorted just a bit time consuming

The primary purpose of this thread is for vegetarian support. While I appreciate your input as a meat eater, and am sorry your experience with vegetarians has been negative, this probably isn't the thread for you. I appreciate that many vegans are "holier than thou". I've come across a few of them myself. I do appreciate however when one has passionate ethics it's hard to express them and have people not shoot back "how dare you judge........".

The purpose of this thread is for us to support one another, not be defensive of our choices. This will not be a vegetarian/meat eater bashing arguing thread. There's plenty of other forums for that.

Thanks.

Hi Blackcat. How long have you been vegetarian? Sometimes the body has some adjustment to go through.

I know you recently lost a lot of weight. Does being nearly vegan help you keep it off?

Re: The Vegetarian Thread

I've thought about becoming a vegetarian for years now.

I tried it for about a week. I ate tofu and it made me extremely ill, as does soy milk (Crohn's here). Any other ideas? I bought boca burgers and like them and so does my gut. I also just tried Morningstar (?) sausage. Smelled like sausage and tasted like sausage.

I'm kinda hung up on how to cook spaghetti without meat. What do you use instead?

I'm becoming more green. I use Watkin's and Target's line of cleaning products. I recycle everything even though it means walking 5 blocks in a bad neighborhood, because I figure why waste gas when I can walk?

Re: The Vegetarian Thread

Haven't had a burger since I was 14. I was lacto-ovo vegetarian for a long while, then vegan for two years (got too skinny, even though I ate plenty), then I started eating fish briefly, and now I'm back to lacto-ovo vegetarian. My body is happier when I follow a vegetarian diet.

Any favorite recipes? I'm looking at Ethiopian Spicy Tomato Lentil Stew, but it takes alot of ingredients I don't have.

I have noticed just eating boca burgers that I stay full much much longer. I had one this week on bread with mayo and cheese (bad I know) with broccoli, and it was the only meal I needed that day.

I have been a vegetarian for 28 years. Unfortunately, I also ate lots of junk food-cookies,potato chips etc. when I was practicing "my food addiction." Yes, I think being nearly vegan has helped me keep my weight off too. I lost 125 pounds and have kept my weight off for 1 year.
