Massage as stress relief

Anyone proficient in massage therapy, or willing to share some pointers (or helpful resources)?

I can certainly knead away at large muscle groups, but I'd like to learn more about technique.

Re: Massage as stress relief

As an LMT here in TX, I universally recommend 'the trigger point therapy workbook' by Clair Davies to my clients. Intended for use for self-massage for the layperson. A great resource with uses for simple tools like a tennis ball or a thera-cane/backnobber.

Re: Massage as stress relief

I love getting massages - I find they really are great for stress relief for me. I think it's because not only is it relaxing, it's about taking time to pamper yourself.

I wish I knew more about how to do it - do those community classes you can take (something like couples massage, maybe?) really teach you anything?

I'd also love to know more about massage (AND get them more often). I had one massage that completely turned me off of them, but my friends encouraged me to go back and now I wonder how I've been missing out all my life
