Re: HELP,I have to clean my sons room today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're not alone! My pre-teen's room is horrible! The other day I went to put some laundry of his away and I found an empty cereal box in his drawer! I have given up cleaning his room. If that's they way he wants to live fine. But, he isn't allowed to have friends over, or go to friends' houses if his room isn't at least half-way clean! That seems to work a little bit!
Good Luck in cleaning that room!

Re: HELP,I have to clean my sons room today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I once used a rake to clean out from under my son's bed. He's no longer a teenager, lives at home part of the time, and is still just as messy. I keep reminding him what the trash can and laundry basket are for!! The one who is still a teenager is a little better.

To tell the truth, though, we all tend to be a bit messy; I am constantly fighting my own pack rat tendencies! I'm not talking about filth, just clutter. My older son is the most extreme, though.

Re: HELP,I have to clean my sons room today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My philosophy on cleaning teen-agers' rooms is this: If I can shut the door and not have to look at the mess, AND the flies aren't so thick in the hallway that the health department needs to be notified, I'm OK with it. I'm not the one who has to live in there. I don't see any reason why an able-bodied child over the age of five needs his mother to clean his room for him..........I refuse to do what they are capable of doing for themselves.

But, that's just me.

Re: HELP,I have to clean my sons room today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter has a laundry basket near bed, and clothes all over floor and bed. She has a waste basket near door, one would hope that she would even attempt a 'throw', but no. There were at one time 10 pop cans on her nightstand(mind you will an electrical power strip right nearby!); of course none were empty. I frequently find wet towels from bathing(at least she does that ) on her bed......hello?
I don't get it either. I TRY to have her pick up her room before leaving the house or spending nocs anywhere else. It works most of the time. I clean it once a month. She gets mad cause she can't find anything.......?? I just tell her if she cleaned her own room, I wouldn't have to and then she could find her stuff. She slammed the door to her bedroom and I promptly took her door off the hinges and put it in my room. She never slams door again. Kept it for a couple days.
Always nice to know we're together in this isn't it Star

Re: HELP,I have to clean my sons room today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My master bedroom is probably worse than any bedroom belonging to a teen. I have a bunch of clothes on the floor, empty soda cans, papers, clutter, old price tags, food wrappings, and other things I cannot see.

I work 7 days per week, and I spend too much time browsing thes forums, so the junk simply piles up unchecked and uncontrolled. I'm so afraid of my own disorganization that I feel like a scatterbrain.

Re: HELP,I have to clean my sons room today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't clean my daughter's room - she is 18 and does a decent job most of the time.

My 6 year old however . . . . .I take a trash can in there once a month. I did that with his siblings where they were little too.

Seems like my kids are messier as young kids.

But I do understand how you simply must get in there every once in awhile and clean.

Big huge trash can . . .. toss it before they get home.

And I like the rake idea.

Re: HELP,I have to clean my sons room today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had three boys sharing one room! One set of bunk beds and a single bed.Getting in there was like an obstacle course!Plates, forks and knives would mysteriously disappear from the kitchen to turn up under one of the beds.Soft drinks cans, half full, would be everywhere.Underwear[[[ewww]]] all over the floor. They had a laundry skip but never quite managed to get the clothes in it.Odd socks!!!I solved that one by only buying the same type of sock so I could always make up a pair! Under beds[[[[shudder]]]]I never thought about a rake, what a good ideaI remember turning the mattress on the single bed one day and finding....magazines of healthy looking young ladies....!Of course no one actually owned up to them, they each pointed the finger at the other!Half eaten pizzas from several weeks ago ....The list is endless...but you know what? Now that they have all moved out I miss that messy bedroom,so full of life
