Re: Healthier Living Thread Part V

Hi Zoe - we bought a treadmill a couple of years ago when my husband was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. He has used it once. I used it quite a bit at first but now maybe once every couple of months I use it. Dust is covering it - not clothes.

Finding an elliptical machine that will last is hard. Or any exercise gear except that made for gyms for that matter.

My gym membership was free through our hospital and I paid $35 a month until I added my son and now it is $50. We work out together.

I love the elliptical machine. It is easy on my joints and I go 4.5 miles usually. Or 45 to 60 minutes. I have a People Magazine handy to read while I'm up there. And don't lean on the handles . . .that is bad form. (I used to work for a physical therapist).

I'm back on Atkins . . . I've gained that 10 pounds I lost back over the winter . . . . I'm stuffing my face for some reason. . . . Lack of discipline

My daughter has lost weight on her vegan diet . . .I'm a bit worried though as she is too skinny now and of course as a nurse I wonder about anorexia/bulemia . . . . . plus I've caught her smoking . . . .

So is your elliptical at home or at the gym?

I saw a STELLAR elliptical today for --- $1700.

Sigh. Don't think so.

I am stuffing my face too, at night. Put back on my wt since Christmas (yep 10 lb) and I think a couple more since. TICKS me off that I know going off the wagon means it is so much harder to get back on - but - I go off it anyway...

Tx Steph!

The treadmill is at home - the elliptical is at the gym.

Re: Healthier Living Thread Part V

Hi guys! Sorry I have completely dropped off the face of the planet lately. I am going to try to show up more often, my bad. I am now 4 months away from graduating - thank goodness! I ended up finding myself in the middle of a divorce & that has overtaken my life at the moment.

Let's see, as far as healthy goes, I was doing really good until the divorce stuff began & I got off track, but am getting back on track now. Back to health food and exercise! Have added some light weights to my regimen & am feeling better for it! WooHoo!!!

Hopefully I will have time to do some reading & catch up with y'all. I have missed you guys!

Catch everybody soon - have a great day!

Hugs to you, Zoemaloey . I wonder how much it actually costs to make gym equipment. I think some people are getting rich from manufacturing/selling the machines. Keep looking--I bet you find something you like. That stupid wagon, so easy to fall off, so hard to get back on.

Tweety, woot says it all .

Hey, Sarah. Nice to see you again. I've recently been on a health sabbatical myself. You are soooo close to finishing school, woo hoo. Still interested in working with babies? I'm sorry about your divorce; that's never easy .

Stevie, is your gym at your hospital? I wish my hospital had one; you'd think all hospitals would for their employees. I bet the money spent would be more than made up in paying out less medical costs.

Oh, I did have some success at work. I brought lunch a couple of shifts and stuck to eating what I brought. It's a hassle to make food, but it sure tastes better and is more healthy than anything in the cafeteria.

Hey Hiker! Good to see you too! Yes, the NICU is still my passion & I'm hoping against all odds I can get a job there, hehe.

Guess perhaps we shall get back on track together, eh? lol

Hey if I can get in, my friend....Talk to the manager and tell her how excited you would be to work on the unit. With so many applicants (generally), I think knowing an applicant really wants to be there, as opposed to just happy to have a job can help. It's been a tough ride, but I very much like where I work.

We will get back on track. We'll just head on over to Zoe's house and use her new elliptical machine and then for a change, we'll use Stevie's treadmill. We can take turns reading People out loud and consider the laughing we will no doubt do, part of our aerobic workout .

No, it is actually 20 miles from my hospital. It is the only gym up here.

Aww, thanks! I will do that, I am hoping to do my preceptorship in a NICU, so perhaps that will help. I have my fingers crossed.

LOL! Yes, we shall bounce all over the place & exercise like crazy! hehe.

Hi Steph! Good to see you again! I love the elliptical, we have one at the community building in my little town and it's wonderful! I use it at least 3 times a week and it really helps me I think.

Hi everybody!

Have a great day y'all!

Re: Healthier Living Thread Part V

Hi guys, I'm still maintaining.

Nice to hear from you sddlnscp!

Steph, be watchful because veganism is in teen girls if often a disguise for eating low cal/eating disorders. On some of the message boards I frequent that are veg*n there's a lot of that there. They claim "i can't eat animals, it's so cruel, but so my dinner will be a carrot and some oatmeal". On the other hand, I wholehearted support a healthy veg*n diet and as you know I lean that way myself. I even recently got some soy candles, vegan soap (did you know most soaps are made from animal fat....gross), and non-leather New Balance shoes and a non-leather belt.

Just say no to Atkins.....gross. All that back and forth high fat/high protein ketosis stuff can't be good for you. End lof lecture, because I know better. LOL
