Hey Everyone,
Long Time No See.......
I have been going through some tough times with my health and am now doing an 1800 cal diet, exercise, and meditation.
Diagnosed with diabetes approx. three months ago and have really struggled with changes.
It is good to be back and see how everone is doing.
Liz

Re: Healthier Living Thread Part V

OK- I just bought a yoga DVD, so I can exercise at home before I go to bed. I lost another pound. Total=6 pounds. Yay!

I'm taking a nutrition class with a dietitian right now at work, and it's very interesting. It's mostly focused on carb counting to help our diabetic patients with their diet plans, but I've gotten some really good tips. One really good piece of advice she gave was to divvy out portions of things like cereal as soon as you bring it home from the grocery, and using broccoli slaw mix in things for a veggie boost. Another good tip for a low fat dessert is to scoop 4 tbsp of fat free cool whip between 2 chocolate graham crackers and freeze for a low fat 'ice cream sandwich'- 60 cals/3 grams fat. I started monitoring my caloric intake and weight loss on http://www.my-calorie-counter.com/ It's been very helpful in keeping track of what I'm eating, and my progress.

Good luck to everyone this week!

Zoe, that apple trick does sound delish.

Hi Muffie!!!

Ertravel, nice to hear from you again. Sorry to hear about the DM. Gotta take care of that for sure. Good luck

BBF, the gym I go to babysits while moms and dads work out, but don't know how they find the time. Thanks for the site, I think I might register and use it. I probably should monitor so I can cut back. Congrats on the weight loss so far. I hope you keep coming back to this thread.

I'm doing o.k. There's a film festival in town so I'm going out a lot, and I thought for my peace of mind I'd be better off skipping my yoga class and getting some rest. But that's probably just laziness, but I've been go go go every night and need to stay home, walk the dogs and relax. I'm making tofu stir fry and instead of my usual two servings I'm going to break it up into three.

Re: Healthier Living Thread Part V

Hello everyone,

I am Jay. OK, so, I have lost weight twice while in nursing school. Every time a big test came up, I'd stop exercising and the weight would come back plus some. Well, I graduated went through orientation, critical care course, and ACLS. I am now ready to get the weight off and keep it off. I will "weigh in" every Friday, good or bad, starting this Friday! I am just watching my intake and kicking up the output. Nothing fancy or secret, just hard work and the will to live a healthy life.

Starting Weight: 233 lbs.

Friday here I come,
Jay

So it's been 2 weeks and I have drank nothing but water and sugar free hot chocolate. LOL I actually enjoy having no juice. I was a juice addict, drank soda only if it was in an alcoholic drink cause I actually hate pop. I'm doing the whole check the color of your pee, and I like that I'm winning this. I think I'm getting weird people, I see light colored pee and I smile. Whats wrong with me! I think I'm going kookoo .

Oh yea for those who wanted to know about the LL Cool J workout heres a link to the book. It's really great with all pictures of exercises (strength training), I like the fact that each pic has one of him and a girl. http://www.amazon.com/LL-Cool-Platin...1966123&sr=8-1

Oh yea tomorrow me and my boyfriend (oops my boyfriend and I just in case Mom's reading LOL) are going to a boxing club for a 90 minute boxing workout... I'll tell you how it is tomorrow. I might die from how hard I hear it is (they keep vomit buckets around the area!!!) but I'll post how it went.

Hi Tweety!

I had it again last nite

Well, another bra notch down - haven't been able to do that for some time. Also not so hard to bend over (snickering - never thought I would get THAT bad!). Little rolls are getting smaller (don't notice the bigger ones getting smaller tho.. )

Hi cherish, you mean to check the state of your hydration you are checking the color of your urine? Guess it makes sense. I really could use more fluid, myself.

Enjoy the boxing, cool! Come back w/ all of your teeth, tho! heh heh

LOL yea I know. When I was in the Army all the latrines (bathrooms) had hydration charts with like 5 stages of urine color so you could check your hydration by the color of your pee. The darker it was, like amber the more water you needed and if it was very light colored or clear you did not need to intake anymore. If your taking medicine though that will make your urine look dark no matter what then I guess you could tell by the frequency of your pee (unless you got something wrong with ya).
