I was bad yesterday at work. We sent out for Chinese food. Work is seriously becoming my downfall lately. I have to work on that.

I did the same thing yesterday. I do ok at work, but when I go to trainings I have issues. Yesterday I went to an out-of-town training where they fed us donuts and cookies for breakfast and then pizza for lunch. : Now I have to be extra-good today!

Hi Smiley! Stick around, great to see you! Yes, definitely! Summer is really good for me too. Just the meetings are bad - of course I don't have any of those for quite a while, so maybe I'll be ok.

Re: Healthier Living Support - Part III

It's almost the weekend! I can't wait to play outside...it is supposed to be nice!

I was at the grocery store last week and checked out the lay's selection...they have changed all chips now to the healthier sunflower oil style of making them. Good news for those of us who can't resist a snack but want to do it in a healthier way! I'll have to make sure to balance it out this weekend with walking or playing tennis

Wonka - I've heard it's going to be 99 degrees out here - I am so happy! I looooooove the heat! This is my last weekend before I start classes, so I am going to try really hard to enjoy it! Actually - I am going to try to deep-clean my house - LOL! That will be good though - everything will start out all nice and fresh before the semester starts.

Everybody, have a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend!

Re: Healthier Living Support - Part III

I went for a run today and whew, was I beat! It's amazing - the older I get the less I can just get back in there and go run after spending all semester on the ellipse. I find I really have to work my way up or I'm too sore to exercise again the next day.

I have a little 2 mile course...I ran half then speed-walked half of it. My legs were feeling it just enough but I wasn't exhausted. I miss the days of youth when I could switch activities without thinking about knee pain or sore quads the next day.

I messed up dinner tonight (my version of taco salad and I forgot to pack the salsa so it was very dry). Since I didn't eat well, I was tempted by all of the junk and of course, famished when I got home. Not eating after coming home at midnight was a tough habit to break (took me a couple of months to figure out how to time my meals to deal with 2nd shift and not come home starving) but I only waiver every now and then (tonight was one of those now and thens).

Anyway, thanks for reading...for those losing - keep it up - you can do it!! I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Re: Healthier Living Support - Part III

Just found this thread! CONGRATS to you all! Y'all are doing GREAT. Keep up the good work! I noticed many have problems with junk food and lunch time orders at work. (Sorry in advance if this all was said previously and about the soapbox-y-ish feel.)

The 'ordering out': if you work in a hospital, see if the dietitian or diet tech has patient info handouts for heart healthy dining out. I know my old hospital's dietitians carried around patient information handouts with 'Restaraunt Type' and 'good choices' and 'bad choices' for each type...Italian restaraunt, 'good' is marinara sauce and 'bad' is alfredo... stuff like that. Use what resources are at your disposal. And they often feel underappreciated by the nursing staff.

For the junk food and temptations, that is a personal battle, sometimes against your own inner demons. Myself, I figure if I'm going to indulge in something, I'm going to indulge in something that is worth it that I really really like, D*** it! Like NY style cheesecake, my not-yet-world-famous baklava, Smithfield VA Ham, good Brie, an extravagant (single) glass of wine (Johannasberg Riesling), or NYC style pizza slice. This lets me really ignore the crapola floating around at work (and life)! Who needs cheetos anyway.
