Re: Copng Mechanisms for Lpn/Rn

I personally cope by exercising at least 5 times weekly. Prior to starting my exercise regimin, I felt constant stress, anxiety, and tension while at work. Now that I have been working out regularly, I am calmer at work and can handle the smaller issues as if they were a grain of salt.

Working with the sick is a tremendous challenge because they tend to not be very nice or pleasant during times of illness. I cannot control the behavior of others, but I can definitely control my reactions. Good luck to you!

Thread moved to the Health & Stress Mgmt. forum, since this issue applies to all levels of nurses.

Re: Coping Mechanisms for Lpn/Rn

I agree with the Commuter, exercise is very helpful in
managing the stresses of nursing and helping with your
feelings about caring for patients.

I would add a walking program is helpful. Take your favorite music
along and go! When weather is not cooperative, I substituted
dance dvds. Find what you love to do.

Yoga, aerobics, dance, martial arts, and sports are great
options.

You are smart to plan ahead to take care of yourself. Nursing is a
challenging profession.

Best wishes on your nursing program

PS- check out Zumba, its fun and aerobic

Re: Coping Mechanisms for Lpn/Rn

After I leave my job at the end of my shift, I go in my car alone and start yelling and screaming at the top of my lungs. I tell everyone who upset me during my shift exactly what I think of them. After I yell and scream, I feel better and calmer.
