Bad Insurance For Healthcare Workers!!!!!!!

I was just wondering if anybody else has issues with their health insurance. You would think that working in a hospital would give you great insurance. Instead they have copays on top of copays and as a PCT you can't afford them,so what good is insurance. I have had a chest cold for 2 weeks and OTC's have not helped so I go to the doc($20)and she gives me a script for robutussin 10-100(copay$10).The stuff I have at home is the same strength for $3(minus the codeine, which I don't need). Then she says well maybe we should get an Xray($35)and then come back and we will discuss the Xray($20). For the measely 9.91 I make after being there 3 years how am I supposed to just say here you go $85. I am sorry to spout off just frustrated and was wondering if all coverage is this ridiculous these days.

Re: Bad Insurance For Healthcare Workers!!!!!!!

I finally got my insurance after being at this job since August, I was told I would have it after 3 months, but someone goofed up, then it seemed that the office was changing insurance companies and had to go with one to make sure there was no lapse in coverage............today I was informed that the office would pay 280.00/month and my share was 305.00/month. Needless to say without a payraise of about 500.00 a month i can't afford to work there any more! I will be turning down the insurance and looking for other employment..........which is sad because I love my job and was getting pretty comfortable with it. Hope you have better luck!

Re: Bad Insurance For Healthcare Workers!!!!!!!

I worked in a hospital for a short time and yes the insurance was expensive and of course there were copays and all that. It's crazy when I hear on the news about people that work at places like WalMart fussing that they should get insurance no matter how much they work or whatever. I mean, do they realize the cost would take almost their whole check?? Just because a company offers insurance doeasn't mean it's FREE. However, now my husband is full time military and the coverage is 100%...no copays...and it doesn't cost anything. And Dr's around here actually take it!! So I'd have to say the military has great insurance.

Re: Bad Insurance For Healthcare Workers!!!!!!!

When I was a pediatric office nurse a few years ago, my health insurance was horrible. I had a $1000 deductable, I did not have dental or vision benefits, my copays for my drugs were $30 if it was not generic. It was awful. Luckily, I work for a great hospital now and my benefits are great.

Re: Bad Insurance For Healthcare Workers!!!!!!!

My hospital changed its coverage so that our premium didn't increase but our deductible went up to $1000 per person. We also are responsible for 20% of hospital chargesOffice copays have been $35 for a couple of years but now our specialist copays are $50. If we can get on my DH's plan at his place of employment, I'll ditch this plan in a heartbeat!

Thing is, that this seems to be happening across the country. Working people with insurance can't afford to go to the doc...something's gotta change!
