I am considering Reiki therapy for some ongoing problems with pain and anxiety. (panic attacks actually). Has anyone had any experience with this type of therapy...good or bad, would love to hear about it!! Thanks!!

I don't know if you are still interested in this, but I agree -- you should try it. A few years ago, I was being treated for a ganglion cyst in my wrist. It took over a year for the diagnosis to be made, as the doc was thinking carpal tunnel. At any rate, if you've ever experienced carpal tunnel or a cyst yourself, you know how painful it is. The cyst sat between tendons in my arm, and when it was enlarged, I would develop tendonitis. I was in so much pain that I couldn't even sleep at night. A friend of mine offerred to do Reiki on my arm... it was amazing. The pain was eased substantially, and not only could I sleep, I could work!! Of course, I wasn't exactly "taking care of it" by working and doing the same repetitive motion that had started the pain to begin with. Once I did start taking care of it, though, on the few times that it would flare up after that, I'd go look for my friend... and I've not had any problems with it since. I'm a firm believer in Reiki.

i am a level 2 reiki practitioner....I would day go for it...the sole act of taking time for yourself in a meditative healing state is so benificial...good luck. K

I am a recent level one Reiki practioner. Hoping to go to level 11 very soon. I believe that you have to wait one year to go to level 3. There is also this other energy healing modality I just heard about LAHO-Chi.

I am in NC until my contract is up June 22nd so I was planning on looking into this.
I find energy healing , chinese medicine, alternative medicine and other things fascinating.I attend a Unity church which is metaphysical and would love to become an Independent R.N. at some point. I just purchased a book called "Business Mastery" which goes through steps to become self employed. Although I have had many different nursing experience since graduation in 1988 I have been working in psychiatry since 1997. I wouldnt mind getting back into a hospital setting. IE surgical, O.R. or med surg but quite frankly I shy away from that setting due to high nurse/patient staffing ratio's.Not only is it unsafe for the patients it feels like "suicide" to me. If the ratio's were better I would probably really enjoy working in those realms.I always enjoy my patients no matter what realm I work in. I enjoy working on units that practice primary care nursing.Give me my 5 or 6 patients and let me be.
I seem to be happiest under those circumstances.
In my mind there is not a shortage of nurses in this country but a shortage of nurses who want to work in a hospital based nursing setting. I know this has already been discussed multiple times on this forum so I will not perseverate on this point.
It is nice to know that there are other nurses out there who embrace many modalities towards health and healing and are willing to incorporate that into their practice.

I've been a Level II Reiki Practitioner for a year and a half and find it wonderful for myself and my family. My Mom calls herself a "Reiki Junkie" because she loves it so much. Before she had surgery for her carpal tunnel diagnosis she swore that when I gave her Reiki that these were the only times the pain was gone for a few hours enough to sleep. When she had the surgery I gave her Reiki each day and her surgery and recovery were excellent. She now has no pain at all. Great surgeon, good Reiki... I believe in complementary medicine in every way!!!! I even used it on my car once when it wouldn't crank. My husband was driving and we were 15 miles from home when this happened. We sat there for probably 5 minutes and the engine acted like it wanted to start but it wouldn't actually turn over. I put my hands on the dashboard and gave the car Reiki. About a minute later, my husband tried cranking the car again and it cranked!!! I held my hands on the dashboard all the way home and we made it home safely. Reiki is wonderful. I have many other stories about the Reiki in my life but I'll not share them here now. I'm looking forward to becoming a Master too!!!

It's wonderful to find other nurses who are "enlightened" to complementary therapies here!!!

I've been a Reiki II practioner for three years. I won't lie and say that it's helped 100% of the time, but it's helped most of the time. I would certainly explore different practioners and find one that you feel comfortable with. Also, everyone has the right to charge what they want, but I wouldn't pay more than $40 an hour (in my area anyway). I've seen some people charge $80 an hour after taking a weekend crash course in Reiki which, IMO, is way too much.

I am also a Reki II practitioner and have had some results that amazed me, personally the Reki Master that taught em was my headnurse and I developed Bells Palsy one weekend... I was given pred. but started having an adverse reaction to it and was told that I would just have to wait it out, it was thought that I would be stuck with it for a few months until it resolved itself but "Out of the Mist, with a hearty HI HO Silver" came my headnurse to the rescue and the Bells Palsy was gone in two weeks and I have no residual effects left.

The key to Reki is that you have to give permission to be worked on and be willing to take the treatment, my instructor had warned "you can do Reki for anyone as often as as long as you can but if they are not willing to accept the healing, it will not work"

my business partner & friend is a Reiki Master, Reflexologist & a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner & an RN. She uses all of the above for pain mgmt for her clients, including ME! Energy work, whatever the title whether it be Japanese (Reiki), Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, etc... is beneficial & can assist in the holistic healing process. Go to a practitioner who combines the art/science of energy work & you'll probably be pleased at your findings. I try to use practitioners in massage who are trained in both, as I get a better treatment.

I am Novice Reiki Master and a Helaing Level Touch Practioner level 1. I have been totally moved by the things I have personally experienced. I have had chronic LBP since last fall. I am now pain free 98% of the time due to self healing thru Healing Touch. I plan to continue until I have completed the training thru level 4 or 5. At this point I cannot use it on my patients(my don says it has to be approved by the medical adm,nursing adm. yada yada..So for the meantime I will continue to learn what I am being called to, if for no one else for myself and those I love. Maybe in time my Don will see it's importance in treating the whole person and help me get it passed to be used on our patiets...In the meantime I am looking for a good used massage table,sometime portable but sturdy...Anyone have leads????
