Hi,

I have read what has been said here some years ago about the flaxseed oil/cottage cheese diet to cure cancer developed by Dr Joanna Budwig. I have recently been told that I may have cancer and have been following this diet for two months. It costs about 20 dollars a week in flax oil and cottage cheese and there is a Yahoo Group for people on the diet. [Incidentally the Quack Watch site now says nothing about the Budwig diet].

My experience with friends and family of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy is that they do not cure cancer and are harmful. If they do not produce a cure, it is difficult to judge whether the conventional therapies for cancer are worthwhile. Do the pain and discomfort deliver sufficient extra life and of a good quality. Instinctively I am with Hippocrates when he said "First do no harm".

I'm sorry to hear that you have cancer. I for one will definately include alternative approaches if I ever get cancer.

Sometimes surgery, chemo and radio are futile. It's frustrating to see so many sick and dying people suffer through these treatments when they only make the end more miserable.

However, many advances have been made and these treatments can cure some cancers. So I'm going to have to disagree with you. There are hundreds and thousands of people who have survived cancer with conventional treatment. Mostly it depends on the type of cancern and the stage.

Thank you for moving my thread about cancer. I realise you are a support site for nurses. I just wanted to see what nurses who deal with cancer on a day to day basis think about the conventional treatments.

I too am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis.
There are many alternative therapies out there. I am not in a place to recommend one since I am not a doctor but one thing I have worked with and read a lot about is the role of Vitamin C in helping with cancer.
Some places are doing IV vitamin C along with oral doses. Some places do something called insulin potentiated chemotherapy where they use a very low dose of chemo and supposedly direct it to the cancer cells with insulin.
Again, I do not know if these are good therapies or the outcomes of those who have done them, I just know of their existance.
After establishing a good oncologist, you could go to a naturopath as well to get a good nutrional support for what you are going through.

Sorry to hear about your illness. I know that cancer feeds off of sugar and iron. There is an alternative medical institute in Mexico that I know people have gotten treated from cancer with great success. It's called Sanoviv.
