Hospitalization rates for brain injuries among the country's American
Indian and Alaska Native populations are twice as high as they are among whites, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

And more American Indians suffer traumatic brain injuries than do people of any other race, the CDC reports.

"This is an epidemic problem that needs to be addressed," said Eby, who is Assiniboine. "It's a preventable epidemic."




Rony Little Head turned 21 in a nursing home.
