Re: NAI descent: Role Call

I am 1/4 (uncarded) Prairie Band Potawatomi out of Topeka, Kansas on my maternal side
My maternal grandmother is full blood, my great-grandfather was Chief. My grandmother's sister still lives on the reservation.
There is some native blood from my maternal grandfather as well, but we haven't been able to determine from what tribe as his mother died in childbirth and her native heritage wasn't discussed after his father remarried.

Re: NAI descent: Role Call

I have never taken the time, until now to do the searches, but on my mother's side I had a full booded Cherokee grandmother( a few greats ago) My father's side now has changed what my father told me years ago. Now my paternal Grandmother says that she has NAI blood but no one cared and she does not know who the person's name was. My paterna Grandfather appeared out of nowhere and refused to talk about where he came from as did his family, acording to m paternal Grandmother it was all very "hush hush". I would swear that at one time my father told me that he had Blackfeet blood, but now denies it. That side of my family is against me tracking down my NAI blood. Hmm makes you wonder why! I live in Missouri and we have the Trail of Tears Memorial Site. I actualy wrote a paper in college about Andrew Jackson and the Trail of Tears. I am trying to go to Phoenix as a traveler to work in the Phoenix Indian Memorial Hospital. I would love to learn more about my NAI ancestors and traditions. I want to walk in the Native American way and raise my children the same, esp. my 13mo son. I want him to learn the pride, honor, respect and other values from his Native American blood. Rather than the self-destructive path that todays youth are following. My daughter is very proud of her NAI blood and tells everyone about it. So I pray that God will show me the way to either trace my blood or help me to be adopted, along with my children. I also want to walk in the more peaceful, and introspective way of my Native American Ancestors.

I am 1/4 Mohawk (maternal).

The Native Americans in my line that were female all seemed to gravitate to healing.

Re: NAI descent: Role Call

Hey there all, My great-grandmother was from the Iroquis reservation in Oka, Ontario, Canada. I really don't know that much about my Native American Heritage... It's been interesting to read some of Thunderwolf's posts about NAI culture, I am interested in learning more.
