I took the boards, june 2006 and find a work here in manila, from bacolod city and luckily, passed the 3 month training here in st lukes. Until now, no calls yet, so I could not move on. But december is coming, I need to find work..end up in a call center...no choice of that.

You have been training in St. Lukes, don't they extend the training period or hire you eventually? Looking for more input on this.

Why do I want to do it? Beause people NEED a good hospital and health care professionals there;
and I really want to live in Siargao for the rest of my life because:
1. The surf is awesome! It's where one of the best surf breaks in the world is- Cloud 9 (surfing is my passion)
2. The island is beautiful as it is
3. Life in that island is simple, cool and FUN. I want to live the surfer's lifestyle but still rendering nursing care (both hospital and community) to my countrymen and all the foreign visitors or residents
4. I want to live in our own country. Home sweet home!
With my background in Social Work, I also want to do community organization. There are a lot ot people there who need help and I think I can do it by doing COPAR and that hospital of my dream. The hospital can also accept volunteers from AROUND THE WORLD who want to serve people and at the same time get the feel of the island's vibe.
How do I do it? I still don't know exactly how. Maybe follow the same route as the aspiring pinoy RNs like me who want to go abroad, earn in $ or pound or euros and SAVE and INVEST in some business, get MAN or PhD, meet kind people (nurses, doctors, whoever!) who are also willing to build that hospital, tie up with international organizations who can donate equipment or funds, try my luck in the lottery...etc. Oh well, good luck to all of us dreamers!
i love your idea. in fact, i'm dreaming of doing the same thing in the future...maybe we could work together someday and turn these plans into reality.
right now, i'm seriously contemplating joining a volunteer organization (similar to the Peace Corps) and volunteer my skills as an RN while waiting for my PD to become current...while i'm still young. i think that would be quite an adventure and would be a life experience that defines who i am as a nurse and a person. it would also be an opportunity to network with like-minded people who value service, and not just getting ahead and getting rich by going into nursing (not that there's anything wrong with that - people have every right to pursue their dreams and plans, but many people do get into nursing just for the money). meeting people like this and getting involved in organizations that seriously want to improve the quality of healthcare for the less fortunate in our country would give me the experience and help me build a network to base my future plans upon - i think this would be one good strategy to employ in order to eventually realize my dream of someday becoming involved in an international health organization, or perhaps establish a hospital/health center of my own in a place in my country where people need good healthcare most.

Re: What are your plans as a RN?

It's really nice reading your stories - very inspiring and informative, too. In my case, I'm done with NLE, TOEFL/TSE and NCLEX. I've been processing required documents for US immigrant visa application. I understand this will be a long journey but worth taking definitely. I've applied as a volunteer nurse in one private hospital in my province; as of this writing, I am still waiting for them to notify me if I am accepted or otherwise. The situation may seem hopeless at times and can be very frustrating. But if you believe and trust in God's goodness, you will never lose hope. I for myself always hold on to God's wonderful plans for me and my family. God is good all the time.
For the meantime, I am planning to write an article about my new and noble profession as a registered nurse (I am a "third-courser"; but I'm still in my 30s). I am also reading nursing books so that I would be ready when I get hired by the hospital. I would like to be equipped knowledge and skills-wise before going to the US and work. I am also reading US nursing journals to familiarize myself with the American nursing setup. Although I have been to the US and somehow have a slight idea on how the system works, it is still best to prepare one's self in the right perspective.
I am doing all these for my family, my loved ones, my community and myself. I have grand plans in the future (like building an emergency clinic, scholarships, funding for RNs taking foreign exams, etc.) and with God's help, I know I could make this happen.
Let us do good and be excellent nurses. We must take our profession very seriously; otherwise, we have no business to be here. God bless us all.

I am really interested in doing the Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) course...It really interest me...I hope i can do that someday, im looking forward to do it. Because i do believe that as a RN there are so many things a RN can do aside from carrying out doctors' order, holistic care to the patients, and doing the bedside care..etc. Expanding my knowledge and responsibility can make me a complete Nurse that is of service to people and my family...
I know that this is a big responsibility, since Prescribing medications, referral to other health professionals, odering diagnostic examinations(x-ray, MRI, pathogy, etc.), diagnosing patients, admitting and following them up and etc. are added in the usual RN scope of practice, but i find more challenging and i really think that i could help in uplifting the Nursing profession by doing it somehow.

Please be very aware that the MAN program in the Philippines is not the same as the Advanced Practice programs in the US, nor is it counted as that.
There are no Nurse Practitioner programs offered in the Philippines.
Would recommend that you do much more research on this. The MAN degree from there is considered just the same as a generic Master's in the US and will not get your credit for a Clinical Nurse Specialist nor the NP.

Try contacting the nursing boards and councils in Australia, or view their web sites. Deakin University in Victoria is a leader in Nursing so this may be a good place to start. Victoria University, Australian Catholic University, University of Sydney, Nursing college of NSW and more.
It really depends on which state you are in.
anyway this would be a fantastic direction to take so good luck
