hi everyone! enjoyed reading all post here..really helps me a lot to decide..especially the one posted Piscean, your post put a smile on my face, can't stop my self to laughf .while reading your post, memories from the past flasback on my mind..my happy and sad moments of working in K.S.A.
I worked in KSA as a nurse but not in a hospital instead in a polyclinic though it was not what I wanted,I just focused myself working though most of the time there is not much work to do since all patient are just for check-up.the only disadvantage of working in a polyclinic ay mabobobo ka..but salary wise much better compared here working in a 8 hour toxic shift handling 10 patients (maximum number).eeww!
at the moment,I'm thinking of going back again to KSA but this time in a hospital( MOH).salary is much higher plus good training.nurses there are well compensated.
So for those who are thinking of going to KSA..just prepare yourself and pray because that will be our only weapon to survive alone in other country.
Goodluck to everyone and Happy Holidays!:Santa2:

Hi! Me and my friends are thinking of gping to study to work there as nurses. We want to be close together (this is the number 1 condition of our parents before they allow us to work in KSA). What are the chances that we will be placed in the same hospital/institution?
Thanks!

You mean POEA in manila? I passed both my cgfns and nclex but am really desperate to leave and work abroad ASAP so I decided to work in the middle east for a start... I really do not have an experience as a nurse because it's my second course. Please if anybody here in this forum knows a hospital or an agency that would accept nurses who do not have an experience then please help me....

oneproudigorot....
you can go to POEA in your area and ask for the requirements. they accept nurses like us who do not have work experience. a classmate of mine has no hospital experience, too, but now she's leaving for saudi arabia. the process was really quick. only about 4 months.
we're trying our luck in saudi also.
God bless!

Don't be sad. If you feel you are being had by requiring you to pay for volunteering then don't. These kind of set-up is deplorable in the first place and there is absolutely no guarantee they will even hire you afterwards. These so-called volunteer programs are being used by the hospitals as a milking cow. They get two things out of it: 1) they are saving money by not formally hiring anyone, 2) they get money for letting you volunteer. It's suppose to be "volunteer".
Also, the Dept. of Labor and Employment will be proposing very soon, sometime next month that nurses currently working in hospitals cannot just leave their positions if they cannot find someone to replace them, regardless if the nurse has finished the contract or not.
Meaning, if that nurse cannot find a replacement, then she can potentially be on that position forever. The PNA is already up in arms with this initial proposal and will challenge it as being against human rights w/c it really is.
So, don't be too hot on being hired. It may even be a blessing in disguise if that proposal actually succeeds.

Then from the time you get sched at SRO, you'll be able to leave our country within 2months.
I agree that Saudi is the best training ground for new nurses because you would not just be an RN but also be the nurse aid (bathing, cleaning them after defecated), LPN and medical technician too (blood extraction) because medical technicians in saudi usually stays in their laboratory unlike here in the Philippines, they will come to the ward and extract blood for laboratory works. You'll be able to learn how to do ABG, mastery on suctioning, tube feedings, blood extractions even if your patients 4 extrimities is casted. hahahaha, Just have patience on them and take good care of yourself especially with your back when changing their bed linens and if you be assigned on male ward because some patient/watcher would try to take chance on you. Their hospital equipments are mostly new/upgraded/high technology, electrical beds, pulse oximeter, infusion pumps, suctions & oxygen is on their overhead wall just like in US, most unit/ward has their own standby Emergency cart. Just a reminder, never ever ever throw the empty ampule of narcotic on the container because you won't be able to go home and investigation will be done. It must be returned by the charge nurse to the pharmacy.
If you be assigned on the ward, you'll learn how to speak arabic fast. The first word you'll learn are "Yala Yala" (come, come), Sura (hurry up!). Kam?(how much), Akil (eat), Pulos (money) , Esh?(what?), Ana mafi malloom kalam Arabic (I do not know how to speak Arabic). hahahaha. Then just after few weeks staying in the ward, you'll already know how to communicate & defend yourself if needed.
Be observant!!! Avoid talking with males, always keep distance when talking to male patient or male watcher. And make it sure that your upper uniform should be close to knee level (not butt level) . You'll be working with Indian nurses, and different races like Pakistanis, Sri Lankan, doctors from Egypt, Romanian, Afghanist, Syrian, India, Etiopia, etc.. Just do your job very well and you'll be fine. If senior or other nurses would ask you to check on their patients or to do something, just make it sure that you have done your own assignments too.
Keep your money in your bank account, never lend it unless you know the person you dealing with because you have worked hard for it, be triffty so you'll see the fruit of your hardship at the end of your contract. Avoid buying too much fancy materials & in installment basis(imitated watches, camera, fancy jewelries) because you'll end up paying something every payday. Am I too strict and disciplinarian??? hahaha.
You'll be able to learn how to bake this and bake that, always baking and cooking. hahaha! Then have time for yourself, beautification than staring at the ceiling when bored though not even 1 lizard would pass by and not in the mood to watch tv on the dining room.
Sorry for the long message but I hope this would be a help. Again, take care, God Bless & Goodluck to you!
Thank you for this post. It helped me.:-) I just want to ask what's the difference between MOH and HOP. I applied for MOH but they hired me under HOP. The salary is 2200 per month. Did they increase your salary after 6 months? Or for 11 months that would be your salary?
The contract stated :1.The duration of contract is 2 years 2. entitled to free round trip ticket after 11 months of service. 3.
30 days paid annual vacation plus 8 days official eid holidays.
Is it possible I can ask for certificate or NOC if I will not finish the contract? like ill be working for only 11 months?
If yes, how did you get the certificate?
Or i will be blacklisted if I will not return? I'm done with evaluation of credentials, they will just text for the departure date. Will it take 3 months? Hope to hear from you soon...
God bless! take care!

Hi Kokoy! The usual offer of appointment from POEA is 2years but when you get to Saudi, to your hospital employer, they will give you the actual contract. It will be a contract for 1year and renewable and they will also state the salary you'll get, its either you get the rate they offered to you or they would increase it (within 3 - 4months) as it depends on the Hospital director coordinating with their gov't. but surely would not be reduced.
If I am not mistaken, MOH nurses are assigned on tertiary hospitals, dispensary/ community health clinics while HOP are assigned on hospital base only. MOH has regular every 6months or yearly salary increment (not much though) but better benefits (longer vacation). HOP are subcontract and would not have a regular increase of salary and will be stated on the actual contract you'll recieve.
With regards to NOC (No Objection Certificate) issuance, they usually won't issue NOC if you would work for only a year (11months) but you'll be able to get a Certificate of Employment. And request for it with your resignation letter. Some hospitals would issue NOC if you have worked for 2years or more with them.
Plane ticket to get home would also be provided by your hospital employer even if you finish a 1year contract only but of course they would want you to stay there for as long as you can.
And with Departure, you first need to comply with all the requirements like the medical, visa payment, pdos (pre departure orientation seminar) etc and usually you'll be able to leave within 2months from the time you get the Offer of Appointment.
Hmmm, I hope i have answered your questions. Goodluck and Von voyage
