Re: Saudi- MOH

hen I went to Saudi, they told me where I would be working a week after I passed the entrance exam and started submitting the additional papers they wanted. My statring salary was 2550 in saudi riyals and that was in 1996 .Every year there is an increment depending on your performance. It was ok for me then since I was single ,didn't need to send momey home.Plus everything was free including food and your vacation is paid. And in Saudi Your 50 riyals will go far since the standard of living is not expensive, that is why a lot of Filipino nurses go back there when they become citizens in other western countries because they would pay you more. I just don't know now how much MOH pays now.

my first job as a nurse is in Saudi Arabia under MOH. It needs a lot of hardwork and patience the working situation is not that good you will work non stop for 8 hours or even worst 12 hours sometimes without even taking a glass of water. you have to wipe their poh pooh the well known burasectomy for all filipino nurses..... but this place is a the best training ground ever.. you have to wear abaya when going outside with a limited time frame maximum is 3 hours with a prayer in between around 30 minutes.. during prayer all the stores are close you have to go outside even if you are in the middle of doing something and have to wait till sala or prayer is over... Good luck.....

Hi! Goodluck to you Nikka! Once you submit your documents to POEA, they will forward it to Saudi Recruitment Office (SRO), then you have to wait for a call or notice within 2 to 4weeks for interview, exam, and completion of requirements. Then from the time you get sched at SRO, you'll be able to leave our country within 2months.

I agree that Saudi is the best training ground for new nurses because you would not just be an RN but also be the nurse aid (bathing, cleaning them after defecated), LPN and medical technician too (blood extraction) because medical technicians in saudi usually stays in their laboratory unlike here in the Philippines, they will come to the ward and extract blood for laboratory works. You'll be able to learn how to do ABG, mastery on suctioning, tube feedings, blood extractions even if your patients 4 extrimities is casted. hahahaha, Just have patience on them and take good care of yourself especially with your back when changing their bed linens and if you be assigned on male ward because some patient/watcher would try to take chance on you. Their hospital equipments are mostly new/upgraded/high technology, electrical beds, pulse oximeter, infusion pumps, suctions & oxygen is on their overhead wall just like in US, most unit/ward has their own standby Emergency cart. Just a reminder, never ever ever throw the empty ampule of narcotic on the container because you won't be able to go home and investigation will be done. It must be returned by the charge nurse to the pharmacy.

If you be assigned on the ward, you'll learn how to speak arabic fast. The first word you'll learn are "Yala Yala" (come, come), Sura (hurry up!). Kam?(how much), Akil (eat), Pulos (money) , Esh?(what?), Ana mafi malloom kalam Arabic (I do not know how to speak Arabic). hahahaha. Then just after few weeks staying in the ward, you'll already know how to communicate & defend yourself if needed.

Be observant!!! Avoid talking with males, always keep distance when talking to male patient or male watcher. And make it sure that your upper uniform should be close to knee level (not butt level) . You'll be working with Indian nurses, and different races like Pakistanis, Sri Lankan, doctors from Egypt, Romanian, Afghanist, Syrian, India, Etiopia, etc.. Just do your job very well and you'll be fine. If senior or other nurses would ask you to check on their patients or to do something, just make it sure that you have done your own assignments too.

Keep your money in your bank account, never lend it unless you know the person you dealing with because you have worked hard for it, be triffty so you'll see the fruit of your hardship at the end of your contract. Avoid buying too much fancy materials & in installment basis(imitated watches, camera, fancy jewelries) because you'll end up paying something every payday. Am I too strict and disciplinarian??? hahaha.

You'll be able to learn how to bake this and bake that, always baking and cooking. hahaha! Then have time for yourself, beautification than staring at the ceiling when bored though not even 1 lizard would pass by and not in the mood to watch tv on the dining room.

Sorry for the long message but I hope this would be a help. Again, take care, God Bless & Goodluck to you!

Re: Saudi- MOH

wow! thanks pisceanbabe74 for the very informative post above. It would surely help me as a new grad nurse in anticipating what's in for me in KSA.

Am i correct to assume that you are still in Saudi? What hospital are you affiliated with? May i just know how much more or less do nurses get for a pay, both for non-experienced and experienced nurses. Thanks

i think you should have at least 2 years experience in the philippines before you get a job abroad. it's a law in the phils.isn't it?

I haven't heard or read of any law that requires us new grads to have 2 years experience before working abroad. i think it's a proposal that haven't earned yet the approval of the lawmakers.
As a matter of fact, POEA accepts new grad applicants for job postings in Saudi. It all boils down as to whether the employer will find your application suitable to their requirements.

happy holidays!:icon_wink:

Re: Saudi- MOH

Hi Meliza, sorry for the late response. Anyway, I only worked for just a year in KSA because i focused on cgfns, ielts and nclex review & exam after that 1yr contract. Most nurses stays for yearsss in KSA because of the benefits they get but most of them can't have their family with them. And I have 2kids and I wish to go to a place wherein I could have them with me.

Salary starts at 2,400 SR to 2,700 SR for unexperience nurse and 2,800 & above for experienced nurses in 2004 through POEA/SRO (Saudi Recruitment Office) and also depends on the employer after you get interviewed. I just don't know how much was it right now. Although on some cases, there are some nurses in KSA earns for only 2,000SR/month or even worse, these are nurses who applied through bad agencies here in our country.
