Philippine Board of Nursing to stop Second Coursers from taking up Nursing

I guess this is against the right of an individual who want to pursue nursing as a second course... what can you say?

I wouls definitely like to see the link. I know that they have ben trying to slow down the rush of dentists and doctors going into nursing, as they would be leaving the country. But, I had not heard it about others. You could consider that they would be doing this so that they could leave for other countries easier as well. I could see them making the nursing students sign an affadavit that they would work in nursing for at least two years before permitted to be able to get a visa to leave the country.

Re: Philippine Board of Nursing to stop Second Coursers from taking up Nursing

This rumor has been going on for more than a year now.

As long as its not in the news its still a rumor but if its true they should pass a law to be able to do this and there's no news about that either.

No one has the right to prevent another to do something.

There should be no issue for degree holders to have another degree.

This is done all the time (for whatever course to another course) in other countries and its not an issue there why should it be here.

What will they achieve if they do this? Do they think the 1st RN degree holders will fare better in the local boards if there are no 2nd coursers.

Honestly, what I think is that the 1st degree Rns are finally realizing that the BON and this government and together with the hospitals are the ones really holding them off. They (1st degree RNs) are realizing that if these 2nd coursers were able to apply and able to go out of the country as soon as they graduate (ofcourse plus the time for the processing) so can they.

These poor nurses are tied up to the min. 2 year contract and these hospital don't even allow them to have a period for a leave of absence to even fix there papers, time to study for the CG/NCLEX, etc.. They are forced to resign and if they resign from their 2 yr contract the hospital won't credit any working experiences. It's some sort of a subtle conspiracy between these 3.
Hope these nurses realize what's happening and how they are being taken advantage of and the poor 2nd coursers are taking all the blame for grabing possible slots, for not passing the local boards because of the high number of applicants, and whatever reasons some unscrupulous persons think of.

These are all just my humble opinions.

Re: Philippine Board of Nursing to stop Second Coursers from taking up Nursing

Well i just read on the news that for the December 2005 Philippine nursing boards there were around 400 people who are 2nd coursers of assorted degrees such as MD's, Dentists, PT's, accountants have their results pending meaning they do not know whether they have passed or failed and the reason given was the Philippine Board of Nursing are still checking on their RLE or related learning Experience records and according to the news have found out that these 400 who incidentally graduated just October 2005 from a 1 1/2 year BSN abbreviated course came from one certain school in the Western Visayas and were able to have as much as more than units of RLE per semester as allowed and even have simultaneous RLE which could not happen since each is a prerequisite to another and which is very impossible to finish on the time frame and these has been always an issue with the 2nd coursers. Frankly, in my opinion as long as if they feel they have nothing to hide and have abide with the graduation rules as to the RLE's then they just have to wait for the BON results. The BON is just safeguarding the public as to the competency of the new nurses and also safeguarding the reputation of the Philippine nurses who are abroad since any hint of scandal could also backfire on the credibility of the BON and on these nurses.

Re: Philippine Board of Nursing to stop Second Coursers from taking up Nursing

if it's brain drain that the gov't is worried about, i suppose banning so-called second coursers is simply missing the target. considering how miserable the payscale, work opportunities and, generally, the living standards in our country, no practical pinoy would let go of his stab at a better life.

if it's to level the playing field for 1st degree RNs, the solution looks very strange, to put it mildly. first degree and second degree rns take similar exams, don't they? and i guess everybody goes through the same training/course requirement before graduating. so, i don't see how "grabbing" opportunities could happen. "grabbing" isn't the same as increased competition, which, actually is a good thing because it yields higher standards.

Re: Philippine Board of Nursing to stop Second Coursers from taking up Nursing

I hope this issue is not true! Talking about discrimination. It is a violation of anyone's human right and whatever happened to the right to practice and pursue any profession?Heard about this too. Just graduated last October too and passed the local boards this december..By, now all of us know that even the results of the ranking of the licensure exams were categorized between the regular RNs and the secondary coursers..what's with that?
When as mentioned everybody took the same exams..I even heard some schools like mine are closing their RN programs for MDs, dentists and the like..as to problems with the CHED! They are being given a much difficult time and all of that red tape.. Let's not forget that even at applications with the PRC we second courses are delineated to go up to face the panel for interviews...

What's scary to hear is that if this government is desperate to stop this so called " exodus" of health professionals overseas to seek greener pastures.. heard that even if you are hired by a foreign employer like in the US that does not require a CGFNS this can be a step behind as some immigration consuls will ask you for your CGFNS..even if your employer or the state you are going to go to have hired you and does not require it..I hope this is not really true..
Oh well,i guess we have to exert our rights as individuals and if these issues are true make our voices known...

link to the news
http://www.visayandailystar.com/2006.../topstory2.htm

the issue was actually because of the overload of some students. like having 3 RLE per enrollment, etc. that's... ridiculous.

With respone to the overloading of RLEs etc.. of these examinees whose result are being withheld..Let us not forget that the applicants being second coursers, before being allowed to take the licensure exam are evaluated first by the BON isn't it?So in the first place why were they allowed to take the boards if the RLEs and their curriculum are questionable in the first place????
