It is true that students pay extra to the hospital & school when they are aksed to do extension duty. And you get to do extension duty everytime you get absent or late. In our school, we do three days extension duty per day that we are absent, and we have to pay for the expenses (hospital, school) since it is not part of the "regular" tuition. However, I would ask for an accounting of expenses, if I were you. It's your right since you are the one paying for tuition etc.

hi. I think it is best that you ask for a receipt for that or get a breakdown of expenses. while it is true that when you are absent for a day during duty days, you normally have 3 days extension but that would also depend if you have a medical certificate from the doctor, because If you have a medical certificate, then you will only have replacement for every day that you missed. Then about working weekends, what year is she in? usually sundays are not included. You only get to work on Sundays if you are graduating(4th year) and lacks cases for you to graduate...
Please do talk to her. She is the best one who can really answer your questions/doubts.

Could you tell us what School is this? That is a bit expensive.
I have also not seen nursing students doing 7 days a week duties unless she really had a long leave of absence and is cramming for more duties and even if that was true most shifts are 8-12 hours/day so there is also no reason that she cannot find time to contact you. Double shifts are also uncommon for nursing students to be doing. Nursing students also do not "work" in the strictest sense, they go on mock duties under supervision by a CI. If her base hospital is also a teaching hospital (with medical clerks and medical interns), nursing students will not be doing much at all as most responsibilities are given to clerks and interns.
It would be better if you tell us the school so that someone coming from the same school can provide you with a more thorough explanation and how they do things w/c may be slightly different with the usual but with the tuition you mentioned, this better be a private school.

Too many red flags for me:
You have spent $10,000 (400,000 Pesos) on her. You can buy or build a house in many part of PI for that amount.
Average salary in PI is around $300 (12,000 peso) per month, and that is before taxes.
She never contacts you - Sounds like she is scamming you.
Duty Schedule - Is outrageous and sounds like a lie to me.
Using excuses like: Sickness, School, Medicine, Family Emergency for money from a Western Man is typical for a Scammer.
What's next she going to ask you for money so she can get passport to USA on tourist Visa?

Hmmm...It seems like she is taking advantage of you..I'm sorry to say this but I was once a Nursing student and my Aunt (bless her heart) did take care of my weekly allowance. It costs her P2000/wk ( roughly $47) and that includes some miscellaneous stuff. She is asking too much and I feel bad about it.
Our usual hospital duty is 3days/wk plus 2 days lecture in school. It will depend on the curriculum but I haven't heard of anything like 7days straight! That's just ridiculuous. If it's a make-up duty (that is if she missed a day of duty and it is unexcused, then it is equivalent to 3 days of duty) BUT there are still considerations..You mentioned that she had been sick for 3wks, then she must have a MED CERTIFICATE and if it is valid, then her make-up duty should be equivalent to the no. of days whe was absent. Our Dean before will make an estimation so that it will not be a burden to the student and to the family as well but at the same time it will not be unfair to the students who did attend duties.
Even if she has miscellaneous fees, it would not cost her P400,000! That is just too much! I know you have a good heart but pls don't be fooled by this girl. If she is really that appreciative she will find time to contact you. Do you know the name of the school? Is she a graduating student? We can research on that..

Is this Php 400,000 you invested is for the entire 4 schooling years or in fast track program? Well basing on my own school expenses, it would be close to or more than half a million pesos in total including my monthly allowance, no makeup duty included as I try not to absent even if I am sick because I have to pay extra if you miss every hospital duty. Yes, it's pretty expensive. I am forever in debt with my parents supporting with that amount of money when they could have invested in other things. My tuition fee is more than 50,000 per semester due to the interest rate we pay in monthly basis. But if you pay in cash, it would costs between 45,000-50,000 pesos.
In your situation, what year is the nursing student? If she is in second year, I would highly suspect scamming like what others think here. Try to contact her and request for some receipts. How is she doing school?

the best way to find out is call the college of nursing of that school, ask everything about the tuition. In my college days we have a head clinical instructor for every level/year, so, talk to her head clinical instructor and ask the instructor regarding the status of your student. Tell the instructor that you are the one paying the tuition of the student and you have the right to know her status. Or call the college of nursing dean and talk to him/her. Im just wondering are'nt you asking her any grades report? You should demand for it so that you would also know if she's doing good in school. I cant remember go on duty on Sunday even if I have some backlogs. Duty's are from monday to saturday only. But again the best to find out is call the school.
