And you are going to need to have experience as an RN to have the skills needed for that job. Even if it did exist in your country.

Focus on getting experience first before selecting something that is not available in your country.

Re: Fresh Bsn Grad And Into Big Dreams

you must have watched too much CSI. Dear, your a fresh grad, do you already have a license? If not, pass the NLE first. If you alrady have a license, have you tried looking for a job? If not, try it first... If you do but still desperate to be a forensic nurse, try to look for school here in the Philippines offering forensic nursing. If you did find one, good for you....

Allnurses.com has a Forum specific for Nursing Specialties and Forensic Nursing is one of the sub-forums there. Check out the sticky on how to become one and what exactly is the role of forensic nurses.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a forensic nurse in PI, so would look into the US or other countries for your education. It seems to be a very interesting job. Good luck.

Re: Fresh Bsn Grad And Into Big Dreams

In the US, as well as other countries, we do have forensic nurses. But they also need to have experience as an RN as well to even understand what they are looking at.

The issue is that it does not exist in the Philippines and everything concerning it needs to be done in another country. But be aware that it is going to include ugly murder scenes, decomposing bodies and much work in a cadaver lab in most cases. As well as assisting with autopsies.

I am referencing this sticky thread that Suzanne started regarding what we can do to improve the condition of nursing in the Philippines.

I think the OP is hitting on something interesting to me in regards to improving the lot of Filipina(o) nurses in the Philippines. Namely, expanding the scope of work of registered nurses in the Philippines. I see Philippine nurses as pigeon holing themselves as "bedside/ staff nurses" too often.

In the United States for example, having a BSN can open the door for many other types of jobs, besides bedside care, evem in non tradional medical fields. I wonder what if anything can be done to open up opportunities for the 1,000,000 presently enrolled nurses when they all graduate in the next 5 years. Perhaps some of these BSN grads will go into politics, not be corrupt, and actually improve the situation.
