this sticky thread that Suzanne started regarding what we can do to improve the condition of nursing in the Philippines.
I think the OP is hitting on something interesting to me in regards to improving the lot of Filipina(o) nurses in the Philippines. Namely, expanding the scope of work of registered nurses in the Philippines. I see Philippine nurses as pigeon holing themselves as "bedside/ staff nurses" too often.
In the United States for example, having a BSN can open the door for many other types of jobs, besides bedside care, evem in non tradional medical fields. I wonder what if anything can be done to open up opportunities for the 1,000,000 presently enrolled nurses when they all graduate in the next 5 years. Perhaps some of these BSN grads will go into politics, not be corrupt, and actually improve the situation.
