I am an engineering graduate and am planning on taking up nursing. Do you think I have what it takes to pass BSN and eventually, NCLEX and NLE? Is there any engineer here who is now a nurse? I'd love to hear from you all. Thanks.

It does not matter if you are an engineering graduate or not, if you feel you really want to become a nurse, then go for it. There are lot of second coursers who became nurses. You can be one of them.

I will go for it if I were you. Most of my former classmates are engineers too, they maybe older than usual nursing students, but they're pretty cool to hang around with.

just follow your heart. if you really want to be a nurse and have this passion to take care of people then go go go. when i was a little i really want to be a nurse. but my mom told me that better to take up engg since most of my tito's are all engrs and they are all doing well.

we all know that nursing is not an easy course as well as engg too. but thinking what we have surpassed during our engg days (those probationary and kick out time, reports and designs and thesis) i believe we can do the same here.

one of my classmate now is an engineering graduate. as far as i know he's not encountering any problems whatsoever regarding coping up with our nursing subjects. as long as youre really into nursing, i dont think theres going to be any problem with adapting.

Of course you have what it takes to pass BSN and other exams
I met nurses who have degrees in:
- mass communication
- architecture
- engineering
- dentistry
- political science
- journalism
- commerce
- IT
and they came from ateneo, DLSU, Up and ust, name it we have it :P

To be honest, I'm doing this because I want to get out of the Philippines before the political situation here gets worse but that doesn't mean that it's against my will to take up nursing. Nope, it isn't. I the flexible type. I learn how to love what I do. Also, I've heard a lot of good things about nurses in the US like health benefits, high starting pay rate, flexible work schedule (in homes, as temporary jobs or "sideline"), etc...

My wife is currently taking up nursing and if I take up nursing this coming April or May '07, I may graduate October '09 while she will graduate Mar '08. That means I'll be graduating approximately at the same time as when our immigrant visa is approved (assuming all requirements are met by my wife and that visa screening will take a year or so). Do you think this is a good idea? Do you think my calculation is correct?

by the way i am an engineering student...for details as to where i graduated what engineering degree i have just pm me. my advise to you is not to go to schools which offer speedy graduation at the expense of uncertainty and possible headaches due to the technicalities of their second courser curiculum...i would go to a reputable nursing school which will accept 2nd coursers. SU is one of them...my friend an eng technology grad will take up nuirsing in bacolod too...i think he picked USLS.

my husband is a computer engineering graduate and worked in the philippines as a comupter programmer.when we went here in the us, he had a tough time finding jobs so he enrolled for the cna course which just lasted for 1 1/2 mo in north carolina. we moved here in new england and he is now working as a cna and is now taking cmt course(when he gets certified, he can pass out meds in a nursing home or assisted living) which he's gonna finish this december.his next step now after this course is lpn.i could not even imagine him switching to healthcare.one time he mentioned to me he hoped that he just took nursing in the phils before as what was advised by his family/relatives.it is really a big transition from an engineer to a nurse but if you're really eager to do it, you can.for the green cards, lately, processing of papers are faster.we got ours in a year provided you got all the requirements.some even got theirs less than a year.goodluck!
