Re: LVN/LPN Course in the Philippines

I have clashed head to head with a faculty member here in Manila "promoting the LVN/ LPN" as a"shorter, cheaper" alternative to getting to the US and Canada. I have asked her to provide documentation to prove what theyre school claims. All she could provide was a Classified Advertisement from a local tabloid by an "immigration consuting company" ( NOT A POEA Registered Agency). Unfortunately, her 40+ students are "locked into this course" because theyre parents "invested" their hard earned Pesos into this semester already!

And shame on that wonderful instructor.
Wonder what those families think of her now?

Re: To all Pinoy RNs - Pls. Read !!!

Providing a direct link to a thread that majority of Filipino RNs have found to be useful and a good read. So, please check it out, you won't be disappointed. It also serves as a link to Filipino RNs who are working already in the US and those still in the Philippines wanting to know what working in the U.S. really is.

The thread is generally about:

Topics from experiences at the workplace, impact of the new culture to you and your family, general do's and dont's, and others.

This thread would serve, hopefully, as a general resource thread for would-be U.S. nurses in the near future and to dispel myths and rumors and of course general advice coming from those already in the U.S.

No SMS/text/e-mail language and pls. use proper grammar and sentence structure

Just giving a friendly reminder that we should as much as possible avoid the use of SMS, Text and E-mail languages here. Please use proper grammar and sentence structure as well and as always no Tagalog words.

Thank you for understanding.

Re: No SMS/text/e-mail language and pls. use proper grammar and sentence structure

This notice is not meant for co-members to correct someone publicly nor does give someone an authority to be a grammar police. In my opinion, it is very rude to do so and we are not expecting perfect English either. Just the basics.

I think everyone knows what we are talking about and it is being done on purpose.

The Philippine sub-forum is being read by other people as well, not just Filipinos.
Not everyone knows these Text/SMS languages so let us be gracious not to do so.

Re: To all Pinoy RNs - Pls. Read !!!

Rumor Mongering in the Internet

The Internet is an ideal breeding ground for spreading rumors, also known as rumormongering. On the hundreds of thousands of chat rooms on every possible subject, people can say what they think, or make up just about anything they want.

Rumors can be very damaging, as anyone who has ever been to school knows. The rumor mill moves fast in school. But on the Internet, rumors move at light speed to huge audiences and can cause a great deal more damage than what happens at school.

One of the problems is that people tend to believe what they read in a newspaper or on the 6PM news. Too many people believe what they read on the Internet, which makes rumor mongering much more dangerous in Cyberspace.
