hi all, just want an advice. I am currently choosing between 2 schools on where i would take my second course. I am a BS accountancy graduate. I am chhosing between PWU, which offers program for 2nd coursers and this is only for 2 years (trisem), and Perpetual las pinas which would take me 3 year (regular sem). A friend told me that i should enroll in PWU because it would be faster, but another friend of mine toldme to enroll in Perpetual because its a good school and it has its own hospital.They have clashing ideas, a friend told me that i would be wasting my time in perpetual because i would be taking all theories which is not that important because i can do my own reading and what is important is the practice itself. is this true. Please help. thanks

hey, nice to know there's sumbody out there who's a 2nd courser like me, willing to "learn" some more, probably earn some more... in the US or elsewhere! afterall, no one is too old to get back to school.

well, its really up to you. depends on your style of learning, do you want fast tract? or the spoon-feeding type? if you are in a hurry, then, by all means, go get the 2 year program, but if not, you may settle for the other. you'd learn more (or eventually pay more) if you get good highly qualified teachers. it's safer...if you knowwhatimean... i took mine in less than 2 years. whew!!! really had to crawl my way to pass ALL my exams. I and my classmates were in shock when we were having our review. (so... that was that... was that it?... what the hell was she talking abt?!?... how come they knew that and i didn't?...) what was lacking in school, i compensated with studying... studying...studying... reading, learning, asking questions, and most of all PRAYING!!! and prayed hard, I did!

they say that as 2nd coursers, we are more mature, more knowledgeable and really don't need a lot of pushing or explaining to understand fully! afterall, as mature individuals, we almost certainly paid for our own extremely high tuition fee costs! we value our hard earned money more than our younger counterparts, and i guess more focused on our goals in life.

don't get me wrong though. i didn't say the regular nursing students are not focused and irresponsible esp when handling money matters, i'm just saying that experience and maturity ALMOST always comes with age... lol

I'm proud to be a nursing 2nd courser! Afterall, I did it, and ready to go! GO GIRL! Congratulations on deciding to take that leap! follow your heart and may all your dreams come true.

hi, thanks for the reply. may i ask where did you take your second course? will i be having problems with my duty if i take the program for 2 yrs? thanks again

you would not have many problems with duty and stuff if you go to a legit institution, that would fix your credentials "clean". sorry, cant recommend my school for very personal reasons. there are a lot of schools out there though. my advice is contact these schools and see their programs, then you decide for yourself...

the difference between 2 years and 3 years is not the first thing I would be worried about. go for the better school, with the hospital.

I you dont want to listen to your friends, look at the board passing rate of each school... At least, the school will speak for itself... Then you'll be the judge....

most schools have these down as 2 years and 2 summers.

that's 6 semesters equivalent.

if you took yours in less than 2 years, that means you finished it in 5 trimesters or less.

how were your clinical rotations?

what do you mean by fix your credentials "clean"?

this doesn't sound legitimate to me.

if you go to a legit institution, they shouldn't have to fix nor clean your credentials.

"Fixing records clean" as mentioned above is also grounds for getting denied for a visa anywhere. It is considered submitting fraudulent documents and will get you even deported.

As has happened with some that went to the US and their wonderful second courser programs "cooked the books" as well call it. They had their VSC cancelled and therefore the green card cancelled as well and were deported from the US back to your country.

Please be very careful what you tell someone to do.

hey... i was just talking what i have gone through as a second courser, basing what i'm telling on facts in reference to my own experiences. what i'm saying is that it is your judgement on wether to take it 2 or 3 years. its definitely one's own prerogative, not just the tract record or passing percentage of the school. afterall, it's not only the school that will help you pass, but you yourself. studying is the key. i need not be careful because as far as i can remember, i never told anyone to do anything too. by the way, my school papers are not fraudulent. by saying "fixing records clean" i meant i didn't have problems with regards to any of my school records. let's just wish everyone the best!

I was just making a point and you are taking it out of context. There actually have been schools in your country, that have fixed or changed things on transcripts and they have been caught doing it and the nurses were essentially removed from the US. It has been, unfortunately, well documented even on this forum. You just need to do a search for it.

Not saying anything about the two vs. three year program only the phrase "fixing the records".

Question should be for anyone: Would you feel comfortable with what you have learned to be caring for a family member of yours, or another student that went thru your program and had the same skill set that you have? This is how a school should be rated and how one should make a decision as to where to attend.
