I've had a PDA for years, and in general I keep my calendar, contacts, and notes on there (not to mention some games, a musical notation program, a weight watchers program, etc.!).... I would not have bought one just for nursing school, but now that I'm done I will certainly use it for work.
Whether or not you need one depends on how you like to work... there's nothing on there that you absolutely _need_ if you are able to organize yourself in another way (on paper, for example). It can be anywhere as simple as a souped-up address and date book or as complicated as a complete reference guide for meds and such. If you like seeing things on paper, then stick with your reference books and texts and all that... I would say that you don't NEED to go buy a PDA at this point, certainly until you know what kinds of features you'd like. Just about everything on there you can do on paper... you just will have more books in your backpack.
