Re: Ways to utilize your PDA

You are very welcome.

I bought a refurbished one, it came with EVERYTHING including a really nice leather case, charging cord, basic software package (including the Documents to Go), a screen cover (protects the glass screen from all the sliding and poking with the stylus), and a 1 year full warranty. I have had NO problems with it whatsoever. I read some review articles about that company and have seen 98% good reviews regarding their business practice.

Thank you for the good wishes and the ER advice (I can't WAIT to be in the thick of it!).

GOOD LUCK to you and your purchase. You WON'T regret it. OH, a nurse today at my clinical site had this nifty cover for her PDA, is like mine, it completely covers the PDA and is able to be disinfected (nasty nosocomials). She said she got it at the local medical supply, I am sure most have them.

Thanks again and GOOD LUCK>

Re: Ways to utilize your PDA

Hi there-

I have a Palm TX too. I have not used it much, as I just can't fit it into my schedule. However, I am wondering how you "listen" to your lectures on it? I am using an Ipod to tape lectures, then load them to Itunes and then back to the Ipod as a file. However, I have deleted multiple lectures because I can't figure out how the darn Ipod operates properly!

Thanks
Beth

PDA is not a phone. Can purchase a combination but a lot depends on what your school (if at school) requires. Some will not allow phones. PDA's programs are downloaded onto your PDA via computer and then can be pulled up at a tap of a button

Aprilhere, can you tell me more about how to do this? I just ordered two Palm Treo 680s, one for me and one for my dh. It would be great if we can sync our schedules this Fall when I start nursing school!

BTW, I got them for $100 each with a new cell contract. Great deal!

Re: Ways to utilize your PDA

i just bought an HP iPAq 100 and i have 2 questions, i hope someone would reply.

1. I don't have the pocket keyboard, and I was thinking of working on windows word in my laptop then synching it to my iPAQ. How do i do that?

I tried synching it, but it seemed the windows mobile (word, excel and powerpoint) wasn't uploaded to my laptop.

2. i've tried applying for membership in the american geriatric society but there was a problem with their online feature, anyone here who knows how i can download their ags book?

3. are there any site who offers free care plans software for my iPAQ?

thanks a lot!!

I have migrated through the V, Vx, 505, 515, Tungsten C and now the TX.

Here is how I use mine. No kickbacks from the following software sites, nor am I advertising for them, just a very satisfied user.

Calendar

I use an enhanced calendar called DateBook 6 (www.pimlicosoftware.com) that
uses the basic Palm calendar as its base but has many feature enhancements
including use of icons, linking events to address/contact information,
multiple calendar views including day, multi-day, week, month, 4 month and
year. I keep track of work schedule, wife's schedule, kids schedule,
appointments, conferences, in-services, etc.

Contacts

I have over 1500 contacts that includes family, friends, co-workers,
physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, EMS, police, ECF's

Memo

I have created over 1100 memos that are mainly ER practice tips and tricks
and things not to forget

Tasks (To Do's)

Keep track of things I need to finish that may not have a set due date (I
would use calendar for that) but kind of like a "sticky note" to remind me
to go tot he store, get gas, backup my PC, etc

Medical Applications

Epocrates Essentials - Must have (www.epocrates.com) A little pricey but
WELL WORTH IT!!!!! Look up drugs, herbal drugs, medical conditions database, infectious disease information, differential diagnoses based on symptom list, information tables (what makes urine green?, steroid comparisions, narcotic comparisons, and many more), CME/CE opportunities anywhere you happen to be (I have done about 10 hours just this month alone).

Infusicalc (www.aetherpalm.com) must have if you are managing IV Rx drips.
Allows you to pre-program with your hospital standard concentrations for ANY drug infusion. Tap in the dose you want and the drip rate is there.

ABX Guide (http://hopkins-abxguide.org/) New and improved FREE antibiotic
guide that is updated frequently. lets you select the correct antibiotic for a particular infection (good for Advanced Practice nurses)

Merck Medicus (http://www.merckmedicus.com/pp/us/hc...le_medicus.jsp)
FREE abstract downloads for over 200 medical and nursing journals.Allows you
to select what journals interest you and automatically download when new
issue is released. Allows you to pick and choose your readings more easily.

Medcalc (http://www.med-ia.ch/medcalc/) FREE medical calculators over 70 of
them)

MedRules (http://pbrain.hypermart.net/medrules.html) FREE medical prediction
calculators

iSilo (www.isilo.com). A reader program and there are MANY medical databases written for this reader. Go to www.meistermed.com for a huge collection of iSilo based medical files. Especially Clinical Medicine Consult. It is like a condensed Cecil's Texbook of Medicine, only updated more frequently with the latest evidence based medicine (3-4 times/year). Very easy to navigate and covers nearly every medical field (emergency, cardiology, pulmonary, neurology, rheumatology, critical care, nephrology, women's health, pediatrics, and many more!

Hope this helps the newbies out there.

It is through your recommendations in this post, plus going to each site and evaluating the software, that I have bought the above mentioned PDA, and will subscribe to the epocrates essentials software.
I submitted my thanks to this member for posting all this information, but I didn't feel that was enough to express my gratitude to the information posted. As a student nurse, and finishing up classes in Pharmacology, I knew I would be unable to memorize all the drugs and such. To have a PDA with the epocrates will be so helpful during my clinicals as well as when I get out into the workforce, relieves some stress and worries about medication errors. THANK YOU!
I have shared this post and its information with fellow classmates!
