I just felt like weighing in here on a few comments..

If you have AT&T for cellular service they will be releasing a new iphone in September.
iphones are real, real new. the software available is about 1/10000 of palm's. I would wait for this to mature. also, the costs of the iphone is high, especially if you already have a phone, not to mention the higher costs of internet surfing on these.

palm is going nowhere fast. however, if you have one, and use it as a reference and media device, I cannot see anyone wanting much more. It has a decent sized screen and resolution for the size, and uses industry standard removable media (CHEAP SD CARDS!!)

Which is a shame, as they are nice.
Apple's SDK may help the scene latter, I don't know....
I am personally opting for a IPAQ 210/211 (210 and 211 are the same unit)
The TX would be my choice if my budget was limited.
Tablet PCs look nice on paper, but have a boot up time.
These are great points. For a cheap and simple reference point and media device, it is hard to not like the palm, even though it is getting old. It was an incredible thing almost 4 years ago when it came out, and it is still pretty damn good. Tablet PC's / eee are great, but at least triple the cost, and not very functional in a hosptial setting.

Palm TX
Pros: great touch performance, palm OS, reliable, cheap
Cons: Battery not user replaceable - this effectively limits the lifespan of the unit - replacing cost a lot of money, dated screen
battery can be replaced and the little tiny screw driver is often bundled with the replacement batteries sold on eBay!! the screen may be dated, but you can with movies in landscape mode shrunk down to 300 megs that look pretty good as compared side by side with a smaller screened ipod video my GF has. I wouldn't trade my palm for nuttin'...
