I am looking into getting a PDA. But I'm not too sure as which one to get. I have been told that HP Ipaq Pocket PC's are best...but there are about 100 of them to choose from. I am a first year nursing student and need some help! Which programs should I buy?

I'm having the same problem. There are several threads on PDAs, but I still don't know what I want. I do have one in mind, but I can't remember the name. It was $499.99 on sale.


I think it was a HP, but not sure of the #.

Yeah, I feel so electronically illeterate. I don't know which one is best. I think the one's around $400-$500 look good but I'm not sure...

The problem I had with the HP was that if the battery died (which it did frequently) I had to reload ALL of the software AGAIN... huge pain the hiney.

Bought a Dell this time around - no issues - it has backup memory for just such occasions. I love the little bluetooth keyboard for taking notes and such on it. Get the biggest SD card you can afford.

I have an HP IPAQ 3315. I think I paid just over $300.00 for it at Best Buy in December 2004 (my Christmas present). I bought this particular one because I couldn't locate a lower-end model anywhere (sold-out). I LOVE my IPAQ! You need to buy an SD card to store and backup all your files (otherwise it will wipe everything out when the batter dies). I think I paid around $40-50 for a 512 mb card. Make sure you get one that fits into the SD card adapter on your PDA (the first one I bought wouldn't fit in, so I used it in my digital camera....thank god!). I store all my larger program files on the card and back everything up to the card. I've not lost anything since then.

The IPAQ is a MS Windows based system so it's like using my home computer...everything's compatible. I use MS Word, MS Powerpoint, MS Excel, MS Outlook (to manage my calendar), Windows Media Player.....

THats why I didnt like the ipaq - it saved my data but I was CONSTANTLY reinstalling ALL of the software....

OVer and over and over and.......


Dell is windows pc based too - so are many others

I see that many of the PDA's are Word compatible. Is there a Word program made for the PDA, or does that mean you can only view Word documents?

Can you make & save Word documents on the PDA, or only on your home computer, & then transfer it to your PDA?

I bought an HP Ipaq hx2110 pocket pc on HP's remarketing website. It's refurbished but I saved about $100. It's normally $350-$400 and I got it for $150. It comes with everything...and I don't really care that's it's not brand new. The software is so expensive and so is a PDA! All the software I need run's on pocket pc's which seem to be a big player in the PDA and nursing software market- second to Palm.

if your pda or pocket has a windows os then it should have a word program in it. and yes, you can make and save word on your pda
