Re: PDA When and what to buy?

I had a Treo until Jan and disliked it immensely (I have used Handspring/Sony/Palm PDAs since '98). The Treo has what I consider to be a small screen and I felt it was awkward to use a phone too.
The pocketPCs look interesting; but, their small screen size and resolution have me hesitating.
So I'm leaning towards a Palm TX.

Re: PDA When and what to buy?

I have a Tungsten E2, and I love it! The only thing is I am having a hard time finding a case for it. Skyscape has great prgrams. I am in my 2 semester f nursing school, and I have found ths Davis drug guide to be the best. I also have Tabers on mine. Hope this helps!

Mark,
Not to cause tension but what do you mean by 'small screen size and/or resolution'? For Pocket PC's especially the HP iPaqs are just as comparable to the Palm TX if not better. I have compared both extensively and decided that when I start NS I plan to get an iPaq because of certain things that the Palms have that I don't like. But I say to each his/her own. I know that many people have and use the TX and love it and the same goes for the Pocket PC's... Just my .

Re: PDA When and what to buy?

No problem below you'll find the resolutions and screen sizes.
The resolutions are lower for an HP, Palm TX and Treo:
==
From newegg.com
HP hx2495 iPAQ
Resolution 240 x 320
Screen Size 3.5"
Display Type TFT

palm TX
Resolution 320 x 480
Screen Size 4"
Display Type TFT

From Palm website
The Treo 650 (I had this model)
320 x 320 pixel TFT

Re: PDA When and what to buy?

Thanks this helps alot. I have been looking around and I know I like the Palm Tx but I don't trust ebay enough to purchase it there. Also I am not sure what I should put on it once I get it. I like the skyscape constellation but again, I don't know what I will need so I am not sure what to get. But thank you, this was helpful.

Re: PDA When and what to buy?

I'm not very tech-y, but I would reconsider getting one that has a phone on it. Not all programs allow them in the hospital (for obvious reasons).

I couldn't agree more! I have heard several horror stories of men/women going out and getting the latest and greatest smart phone only to find out that they can't use it at their clinical site or while at school. I prefer to have just a PDA and a phone seperately. But thats just me. And I did my homework and found out that many hospitals now won't allow you to uhave a smart phone on the floor due to the fact that it has a camera and even though you can turn the phone portion off by putting it in 'airplane mode' they may still say 'no'. Also as for the Palm TX I don't like the fact that the user can't change the battery. I don't want to have to send it back to the factory/repair shop and risk not having it for a week or two when I might really need it. And I know people will say 'well thats why you have books' and yes this is true but the PDA makes things a lot easier I think then having to carry around or have a lot of books with you. Any one else have any thoughts. As to the preivous poster who stated that he didn't know what package to buy I would search through the forums on here there are several threads that already talk about this. I would also ask your nursing instructors as your school may require certain programs or a certain software package.
