Question PDA softwares vs. books

Hello,

I will start nursing school soon and two of my required books are TABER'S CYCLOPEDIC MEDICAL DICTIONARY and 2006 LIPPINCOTT'S NURSING DRUG GUIDE. Both books come in PDA softwares version too. Since I have a PDA, should I get the two books in PDA softwares or I should stick with books?

Thanx in advance

I use a pda everyday and don't need to shlep around heavy books that can easily be accessed faster on your pda. For a drug reference that you will need to access a number of times a day especially when you are out of school and on the floor you can easily have your pda on you.

the only question i have is do you want to have to stare at that little lcd screen for any length of time? our unit has those books on the reference shelves and your school library should also so maybe the pda versions do make sense. like i said, i'd just be worried about forcing myself into looking everything up on my pda.

I would worry about misplacing, dropping or breaking a PDA while in clinic. Most students don't have the funds to replace a PDA.

Every facility I've worked in has a drug guide and Taber's avaliable to all staff. In my facility (LTC) the assessment RN leaves all her nursing reference books on the shelf above her desk and we are free to use them whenever we need them. There are also drug guide and a Taber's in each med room.

Sammi,
In my opinion I would invest in the pda versions since you already own a PDA....I did not have a pda in school, but bought one once I started nursing and I really love it. I got so tired of hauling out books all the time at work.....I even have seasoned nurses asking me to look up info for them!!
