Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

Are the PDA's mostly used by RNs or LVNs? I'm about to start at a long term care floor at a VA hospital and am wondering if I should get a PDA. If so, what are the basic programs I should have on it? I'm thinking about the Palm TX...I really want OS 5.

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

I'm confused on which program to purchase. Everyone talks about epocrates, skyscape or pepid. Has anyone purchased the software from Unboundmedline.com I was checking out the nursing central software since it has the Tabers included with the davis drug guide and labs and diagnostic programming. It also has the davis's diseases and disorders. Does anyone have this pda software. How does it compare to the others. I realize it costs $150, but the skyscape nurse consellation IS cheaper but you still have to add on tabers. Plus it has the ICD-9 program which i find no use for. Also the calculator you can get free. Let me know which package is the best.

go to the website and check it out..

I was going to buy the Unbound nursing series, but I found a disk on ebay with all the stuff that comes with that series plus tons more. And I only paid $70 for it. Look up nursing software for os on ebay. I haven't received it yet, but if it has everything it advertised, it's pretty awesome. I'll let you know what I think. Thanks.

I have a numerous PDA programs and some I definitely prefer some over others. I started out with Epocrates, which is okay, but isn't nursing focused. I've purchased all of my other programs from Skyscape. I do like the contents of Unbound Medicine's Constellation better than the Skyscape one, however all of the titles available at Unbound Medicine are also offered through Skyscape (but not in a "Constellation"), which has a much better interface. Interface is the "look" of each program. Skyscape's is nicer looking than Unbound's and it takes up just a bit more space.

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

I actually got the PalmOne Lifedrive from a man who got it for Christmas and didn't need it, so I doubt he'd have more. I did a lot of research and communicated a lot with the sellers before I bought the item. I would do a search in ebay for PalmOne LifeDrive and see what comes up. Don't hesitate to ask questions, and research their feedback. As for the PDA software, do a search for Palm OS Software and you'll find the medical programs. Good luck and if you need anything, give me a holler

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

I have the Palm T|X and I love it. I have all kinds of stuff on it already. I have Archimedes, Lippincott's review for NCLEX-Rn, John Hopkins POC-IT Antibiotic Guide, Epocrates Medtools Applications, Medical Eponyms, Medical Mnemonics, MedCalc, MedMath 2.01, MedRules, COPDGuidelines Tool v1.0, OEI Treatment Guidelines Implementation Tool, Palm EKG, RxDrugs: AHFS Dosing Companion, 911, STAT Growth-BP, STAT Cholesterol, Grace ACS Risk Model Beta, STAT Cardiac Clearance, STAT Hypertention, STAT A-Fib Stroke Risk, and DepressionPHQ-9.
I have only had it for a coupel of days but it has already made my life so much easier. I can do anything with it. It has planners on it, note pads, I can watch videos, download videos...... The list goes on and on. I think everyone should have one. I have only had it a few days and I don't know how I ever lived without it.

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

Okay, I have a Dell Axim X50 and I'm just wondering where everyone carries them at work. I know mine is too heavy to keep in say, my scrubs pocket.
So, I haven't really utilized mine because I don't know where to put it/how to carry it around while keeping it safe at work.

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

I bought the Tungsten E2 also. My son had a 256MB card that I put the Nursing Constellation program on that I purchased from Skyscape. So far it seems pretty useful, but I really need to get Tabers added onto it. The ICD-9 is of no use to me either .
Does anyone else have some suggestions for PDA software that a first year nursing student will find helpful in clinicals???

My scrub tops have two huge pockets in the front so I keep my PDA in one of them and it doesn't get in the way. I may also invest in some cargo scrubs so I can keep it in one of the pockets on the side.
