Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

Where have you guys found the best price on memory expansion cards??? I've been in a downloading mood lately and have pretty much shot the memory on my pda. It's a Palm Tungsten E2 but I don't know where to start on the cards. I don't think I need one of the huge cards but enough that I won't have to buy another one in a year. I haven't started nursing school yet but will in October and know that I will want to put even more on it then.
Thanks!

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

I'm in the same boat. But unlike computers, PDAs is dark waters for me.

Can anybody tell me what desired characteristics of a PDA are?
RAM - how much (to load and use all those programms)?
Flash - how much and what type?
CPU - minimum Hz for comfortable and lag-free work
Screen - color or b&w, minimum desired resolution
Other options?

I started with a Tungsten E and 128 MB card, and it handled everything I needed pretty nicely. I don't know what its clock speed was, but it was blazing compared to a 3-4 yr old model and lag was never a problem. I now havea T5 with, I think, 256 MB internal, and the same card, and both have pretty good room left. I am thinking of getting a 512 MB card, though, to download some MP3s. A 512 card is about 60 bucks, now.
The biggest color screen you can afford is definitely worth it, IMHO.

Is scroll-wheel a "must have" option? Do you ever feel uncomfortable scrolling text up and down with buttons?

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

I great website for information on all the PDAs is PCWorld.com. With a lot of the hospitals going to wireless, it's probably a good idea to buy a PDA with WiFi capability, unless you know your employer is definitely not going to wireless any time soon. The pocket PCs also have the added benefit of a removeable rechargeable battery pack. I don't know how long the battery packs last on the Palm units, but it would be really annoying to have the battery fail and not be able to replace it yourself. Anyone have any issues with Palm battery life?

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

I have had my Palm, 3+ yrs, with no hint of the rechargeble battery wearing out. It will be interesting to hear of others experiences.

I hope, when I an ready to buy again, that the PC's are more "Medical Friendly" then I saw a few years ago when I purchased my Palm.

Re: PDA's and programs, could we make this a sticky?

What is the basic difference between a PDA like HP PC and a Palm? Also, can you download a medical calculator onto it or are there any that come with a calculator?

I got my memory cards at Best Buy. A 512 mb and a 256 mb for $69.00 for the pair! Works great, also try Circuit City or Office Depot, their prices are great too!

I can't believe no one has mentioned using ebay for purchasing software. I purchased a nursing program suite with over 100 programs for 23.00. It has everything from Taber's to RNnotes and RN assess. Check it out guys!!!!:hatparty:
