I hope it is big enough for school. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to load. I wasn't going to get one but I won this one for 1/2 of list price.
So I figure I will give it a try.

Epocrates.com is a must. Its a free drug program that you can update. It tells you about all the drugs as well as Adult, peds dosages, contra indications, side effects, generic and brand names, what type it is, how its secreted, action ect. Its a wonderful program for Nurses. You can purchase the full version, but I have never done that. You will have all the information you need about any drug and all new drugs that come out. Its more up to date than the most recent drug books you can purchase on the shelf. I used it all thru school, and I still use it now that I am a working nurse.

Mine is an HP IPAQ hx2415 with a memory card (not sure the size but totally necessary). I have a case, cradle and charger.
All of my software was either preloaded (the regular stuff like excel, windows ce, etc) or purchased from skyscape.com. I bought the Nursing Constellation package that includes RNnotes, Davis' drug guide. nurse's manual of laboratory and diagnostic tests, archimedes and the ICD-9. I added the Taber's. Something called CheckRx (prob free), medalert (free) this one updates with nursing news when you sync it, then you can read the stuff later and save or delete. It can be interesting if you have the space for it. I also bought Lippincott NCLEX RN8 review which I work on when I am bored (and sick of playing jawbreaker). The questions seem unreasonably easy for NCLEX questions since I am only in my first semester of nursing school (second if I count the summer session).
I wish I had more games (and I'm not even a game person). I love the calender/datebook. I wish the battery lasted longer and/or I had the car charger.

Dino -
You gotta get your wifi up and running. it is the best part of a pda, imo. I got the Dell Axim 30 after comparing reviews between it and the Axim 50. The 50 had some performance issues and was heavier, so I went with the acclaimed 30 - cheaper too. My school has a wireless network - yours likly does as well. That means you can use your wifi to connect to the internet, check email, surf, look stuff up, all while in class (if you need to or if occasionaly some of your classes are boring shhhhhh) I can help you with that, if you want - just send me a private message. It is easy - the big thing is figuring out if your school as a wireless network.

I am looking for something to put on my Palm to help with all the system assessments. There is a ton to remember and I know I read there was a program, but cannot for the life of me remember what it was.

My husband bought me a pocket pc because he loves computers and thought it would be the best product. After a few clinical rotations, I noticed everyone has palm. Should I tell him to return it for a treo? What are the advantages of the palm software over windows and why does everyone on the floor have palm... whats the secret???

I've had both. First a Palm 505 (a couple of years ago). It was great, til I misplaced it during my move into my new hubbie's home 2 years ago. When I starting school last fall, I realized I really needed another PDA so I got a new Windows Mobile based HP IPAQ. I chose to get a Windows based system because I use windows on my laptop and I chose an HP because I love their products (my laptop, printers, digital camera).
Honestly, I don't know that it matters much what you get, but I'd do a comparison if I were you. (See my earlier post here.) Find out what software you'd most like to have and see if it's available in both Palm and Windows formats (I think many are).

I purchased a program a couple weeks ago from skyscape.com called Disease and Disorders: A Nursing Therapeutics Manual 2nd edition. You choose the condition and it gives you a history, what to assess for, and even pertinant documentation. Look it up and you can even do a free trial download.
