palm z22 ? from PDA newbie
|
|
I am shopping for my first PDA. I really like the new z22, primarily because it's so small and light, easy to carry in the pocket of my scrubs. The downside is that it only has 32 MB (20 MB usable) of memory, with no option for an expansion card. That doesn't sound like a lot of memory compared with some of the more expensive ones. However, the full version of Epocrates Essentials (the one you pay for) only requires 6.4 MB. I don't forsee myself cluttering up my PDA with lots of stuff, and Epocrates Essentials seems like it would have everything I need, and I'd still have room left over. Would it be a mistake to limit my memory? If I bought the z22 and decided to upgrade, could I move the software onto the new PDA, or would I have to buy everything again? TIA for any advice!

You could download whatever you added on to your new PDA, but I would seriuosly reconsider that purchase, there is much more than Epocrates that you will want on there. Especially with all that is available out there, especially since you cannot add in a card. If you are using it work, you are going to need more memory. Trust me.

Trust me, you're going to want more memory soon, and if you can't add a memory card, probably a whole lot sooner than you expect! I'd at least go up to a Zire 32 -- they have a memory card slot. Or a Tungsten E.
Once you've bought a program, upgrades are usually free or just a nominal sum. When it's time to upgrade your Palm, make sure you've downloaded the latest version of all your programs to put on your new PDA. Brighthand.com has forums that address any number of Palm questions including which PDA may be the right one for you.

Thanks for your replies. You have convinced me; no matter how small and cute the z22 is, it just doesn't have enough memory. I will get a bigger one. I appreciate your help!

I have a Palm Zire 22. I love it for what I do in my job. As a case manager, I use lots of phone numbers, addresses, protocols, notes, and calendar (of course I love the photo section so I can view small personal slide shows while in boring meetings).

I just bought a palm 72 on ebay. It is coming preloaded with almost every program imaginable. It should be here tomorrow. But the guy who sells them, has a bunch of different ones.
If your interested, go to ebay.com and type palm rn into the browser. They should pop up.

The Tungsten E2 has an expansion slot. It is easy to use and fairly inexpensive. I have seen them as low as $150 and routinely for $199.
I have one and so far, I have no complaints. I have considered the Palm TX, but it's just 'cause it's so hard not to go "bigger and better" where memory is concerned for me!
