I just bought a Palm TX for school and want to get a few programs to help out. Problem is that I don't know how much memory my Palm has or how much I'm going to need to download these programs.

I know I can buy additional memory cards but does anyone know how much memory is baseline? Also when buying memory cards, do they have to be the ones sold through Palm or can I buy generic ones?

The Palm TX has 128 MB of internal memory. You will probably be able to fit a few programs on the device with that memory, but more than likely you'll need to get a memory card. This is especially true if you plan on keeping pictures/music on your device. I would reccomend getting at least a 1G card, as it leaves a lot of room to grow. You should be able to get memory for about $10 per gigabyte (or less!). You DO NOT have to buy ANYTHING only from Palm! You can buy accessories all over the place (Target.com, Best Buy, Circuit City, Ebay, and random internet places-just to a search!). Palm's prices are usually the highest (although sometimes their stuff goes on sale). If you can wait a bit, just look around and be on the lookout for sales and rebates, and you will find great deals!

I have a question how do i know which memory disk I need I just got a Palm T/X and on the website for palm it says a minisd expansion card with sd adapter theres a deal if you buy a pda you can get it for free. Do I have to get a mini sd or will it fit a regular size expansion card? Thanks J

*****IMPORTANT UPDATE*****

Ok. I am going to tell you guys this so that you don't make the same mistake I did. BE SURE when you are purchasing an SD memory card that it is SD and NOT SDHC. These are two different formats, and SDHC is NOT compatable with the TX. I found this out the hard way, since I recently purchased a Patriot 4G SD(HC) memory card and SDHC isn't compatable with the Palm TX. SO, just a warning to all of you to MAKE SURE that the format is SD before you buy!

I guess that means an SDHC card will be for sale soon.....

You should be fine getting a plain ol SD card. Just make sure it isn't SDHC.

The palm TX can't h andle more than 2G. Unless you have music and pictures stored you shouldn't need more than a 1G card. To be honest, I've got epocrates, Davis Drug guide, taber, and a couple of other programs and they are all in memory. Use the card to store papers I'm writing and music and stuff like that.

a TX with a $15 2gig SD card will hold dozens and dozens of skyscape programs. more than you will ever really use, actually. my handheld is about 25% full, and the card is like 5% full. I have 22 programs on it. I use about 5 frequently, the rest, if I am bored.
