|
|
ok. i start graduate school in one month and im looking at some pdas.
I am torn between the palm TX or dell axim x51v---either windows or palm os.
i don't know which one will suit me. From what i've seen, looks like more people use the palm TX.
what do you guys think?

I just bought a PALM T|X a few days ago. I love it!!!!. I purchased the hard case and placed 1GB of memory in it to ensure that I have enough space. I have not started nursing school yet, but I figured that it was time to make the purchase before the fall.
Also, I bought my PALM T|X USED. (Poor college student...) I usually by things from Amazon and I was very pleased. I do know that you can buy them new for a fairly good price also.

Love my palm TX. had it almost 2 years and can not live without it in nursing school. A lot easier to carry than the 7 books it holds. Never a problem with it

Palm TX and HP IPAQ are coming out with new models. So if you go to circuitcity or Bestbuy to buy these items they may not have them because they reduced the price. Most of them are not in stores and NOT AVAILABLE on their online sites. So if your looking for these might as well get them now or wait for the new versions which should be coming out soon.

I have a dell axim and am very happy with it BUT...if you are looking for medical software (especially freeware) there is much more available for palm than pocket pc at the moment.

thanks for all your input.
I was leaning towards the Palm TX... but being that the dell axim is windows... I much preferred that.
but I guess I may go with the TX.
any other opinions?

I just got a Dell X51v. Actually, I got it in the mail today! I haven't had much time to play with it, but I already like it A LOT!! I bought a Palm TX a few months ago and DID NOT like it. For me, the system was too limited and too simplistic. It was difficult to add/remove programs, and the system just seemed slow and clunky. Plus, I bought from circuit city and when my screen broke during week 3 (I bought a warranty, BTW), they told me I could keep it or return it. Obviously I chose the latter.
The Dell has a processer that is 3x as fast, a much brighter screen, and more internal storage. Dell is actually discontinuing the Axim, so they are on sale now (deeply discounted). I think you can get a high-end Axim for the same price as a TX (around 299). Don't quote me on that, but it's worth a look. Plus, Dell has AWESOME customer service (I have bought computers from them), so if you get the warranty it doesn't matter whether or not they ever make another PDA, because they will service, fix, or replace yours, no matter what. I would highly reccomend looking into the Dell, especially if you value quality, ease of use, and expandability. If you don't value these things, then I would suggest getting a lower end Palm, becuase the TX doesn't have much over the lower-end models except for screen size. It really depends on your needs. Keep in mind that you will probably have the device for 3-4 years (unless you break it), so pick something that you can grow into!
Good luck and let us know what you choose!
Oh yeah. Any program you can buy for a Palm-based device you can also buy for a Windows-operating system device. Now, pretty much all programs are available for all devices.

Do you have any idea how soon? I start nursing school in mid-may and was hoping to get one before then. Obviously I'd like the newest version and not the almost-obsolete one!

I have the Palm TX and it was o.k... then I wanted more so I got the Life drive, hated it! So I tried the dell, I love the dell. I more of a PC person. SO you really have to get what fits you... I brought the life drive back and bought a dell with it.

I bought a Dell x51V a couple of months ago, and I absolutely love it. A couple of people in my clinicals bought the LifeDrive at the same time I bought my Dell, and we compared them side-by-side. Conclusions: my Dell is faster, easier to operate, and has a much better screen than the LifeDrive has. We have the same nursing software installed, but since mine works off of a Microsoft platform instead of Palm, the operations of the same software was just a bit different between the Dell and the LifeDrive. Again, the Dell came out ahead. So, I'm really, really glad I went with the Dell. I have lots of nursing software installed, and I use it all the time in cliniclas. Good luck shopping, as there are several good PDA's out there.
