Palm T/X and sync difficulties

Hi all,

I have a Palm T/X and have been having a myriad of problems in getting it to synchronize consistently. I have the following:

Windows Vista (HP/Compaq Presario)

The Palm is configured to connect via USB or Wi-Fi. Neither sync method works consistently. When using USB, I receive the error that the "USB device could not be recognized" and the hotsync process will fail. I decided to try the Wi-Fi sync instead - with inconsistent results as well. I am receiving the message that a Wi-Fi connection cannot be established. Since I am more familiar with IP addressing, I thought I would focus on this method of syncing. My IP address is retrieved automatically from my wireless router and I have tested my Palm to see if it will access the Internet to confirm proper configuration. Regarding HotSync - my device is set to look for my laptop using the IP address of the laptop (which has been confirmed) instead of the computer name.

I have installed the latest version of Palm software/hotsync - once again with occasional syncing - but still inconsistent at best.

Has anyone else encountered sync difficulties? I am trying to install a trial version of Skyscape and the program requires two sync processes to complete (for the trial version anyway).

I've been online looking in IT forums and haven't found a solution yet - seems I'm not the only one... I thought I would check the nurses PDA forum as well to see if anyone else may be having/had the same problem.

I've always been pretty good about troubleshooting this type of thing, but this one has me stumped.

Many thanks,

Shawna

Doesn't vista have problems with syncing?

Re: Palm T/X and sync difficulties

I've read a little about that. It's been a while for me... LOL... I am most familiar with Windows NT/2000 and the corresponding workstation environments. Vista is pretty much a new ballgame for me regarding drivers, compatibility and not to mention "syncing issues".

I am going to take my laptop and Palm into Best Buy where I purchased the unit. Maybe the Geek Squad can help me troubleshoot it.

Oh, I also downloaded the latest version of Palm desktop software - the finished version for Vista. Installed it and still no consistent syncing.

Will post results if I get any.

Re: Palm T/X and sync difficulties

Go to the Palm web site and download the current desktop for VISTA. that will solve some of your problems.

Re: Palm T/X and sync difficulties

Sigh... yes... I tried that this morning.

I ended up calling Palm support (still in the 90 day free support period) and reinstalled the newest version (6.2) again, according to their instructions, deleting the specified folders after completing the uninstall - rebooting then reinstalling.

Voila! My Palm sync'ed... I was SO excited... until I tried sync'ing again. Same error, same failed connection, still unable to sync consistently.

On a lighter note - I was able to configure my portable keyboard without a hitch...

Thanks for all the advice.
