palm pilots

Hello, For those of you that carry a palm pilot with you at work, do you find it to be helpful, do you really use it? Also what do you use it for? Thinking about getting one but didnt know if it was really necessary. Thanks!

Re: palm pilots

I just bought a smartphone (PDA) that I use for the same purpose as a palm pilot (which I used to own....before it broke....). The main use I'll have for it is Davis's Drug Guide. It's much easier to look things up on the PDA than flip through the book. In my case, I wasted time even trying to find the drug guide (book version) because people moved it from the med room. That was all the motivation I needed to buy the PDA version of Davis's.

I use the other PDA functions all of the time. I can sync my calendar with Microsoft Outlook, write notes, & keep a to-do-list. It's a good way for me to stay organized. Although I liked my Palm, I LOVE the phone because it has everything I need in one device.

I've been looking at other nursing PDA programs, but I'm not sure how often I'd use them. Maybe others can make good recommendations. I'm always looking for ways to work smarter.

Re: palm pilots

I have had a Palm TX for almost 2 years. I love it, I use it in and out of the hospital. I have Davis as well, I also have a Taber's and use them both a lot. I recommend PEPID RN...it's a great program. A little pricey but very well worth it. And amazingly, you can get the Merck Manual for free...and it is a great program. I use them all, but I like PEPID the best. I use it mostly to look up drugs, but also use it to look up procedures, diseases, and normal lab values.
