Nursing Central by Unbound Medicine

Anyone use this or used it before? I start school in the fall and I'm thinking about buying it for my Palm. It's a bundle for $149.99. Comes with Davis's Drug Guide, Davis's Lab and Diagnostics, Tabers Medical Dictionary, and a Disease and Disorder program. If anyone knows about it, post your feedback.

I was also wondering if I would still need to purchase these as a book if I have them on my PDA. The content should be identical right? I figure new versions of the book come out all the time and they are about $50 each...so why not just put it on my PDA and get free updates when they are available.

Thanks!

I was thinking of purchasing this program, but haven't yet. So, no-one uses this?
AmandaRN2be, did you try the free trial download?

Re: Nursing Central by Unbound Medicine

I did, and I actually went ahead and purchased it after reading reviews on other sites. There is also an older post about it in this thread (I found it after posting this one). I haven't started clinicals yet, but I can already tell that it is going to be extremely useful. I know it's similar to Nursing Constellation, but it does come with Taber's med. dictionary. I feel like this will always be a good resource since it seems like you are always learning a new word or abbreviation You also get access to the online database. I know the first year for Nursing Central online is free...I'm not sure what it is after that and I don't know if you have to pay for updates (especially for the drug guide), but I'm sure it's not much.

It's sounds like those that use it really like it. I didn't read anything negative about it.

I am currently using Nursing Central, but plan to go back to PEPIDRN when it runs out. PEPID was easier for me to use.

Re: Nursing Central by Unbound Medicine

One of the features I've decided I can't live without, in a PDA drug book thing, is the IV compatability feature. I wanna know, pretty darn quick, the IV/syringe compatability of anything... when I wanna know it, not after I find the big door chart and cause my eyeballs to seize looking for the info on that thing. Nor do I want to call pharmacy and hold for a while or talk to someone who doesn't know. Call me picky or whatever, but I need that info and don't like to wait on it.

So does nursing central do this well? Currently I'm using epocrates but I like to keep my options open, I may try other things out sometime...

I have nursing central bundle. It's OK. I'm not wild about it. I'm thinking about getting Tarascon because that's what our docs use. I want to be on the same page as them.

You have to take into account where you are. As a student like myself I use and really like the Unbound Medicine bundle of PDA and online access. I like having the information given in an organized bite-sized manner.

Working nurses, especially ones that can count on working the same units, are probably smart to use the same resource that their Docs use whether it is Tarascon, Pepid, or Epocrates. I hope to one day find that the Nursing Central bundle is too shallow for me and I need info with more depth and breadth that it offers. But right now, just coming out of first semester, just knowing which end is up is a challenge.

I used Nursing Central throughout nursing school and found it very helpful. I tried Pepid for 6mths and much preferred the set-up Nursing Central offers. Good Luck!

Re: Nursing Central by Unbound Medicine

I'm a little irritated that I just now found out about nursing central because I've already bought 3 of the books for school since they were required and could have just downloaded them to my pda *slaps forehead*!
