Need some advice about dell axim51v pls..

I bought a dell axim 51v last october. I have used it without any problems. Infact, I can use it for several days without even remembering to charge it and it worked. Howver, I just noticed that it won't turn on but blink. Sooo, I called dell tech support and after going thru some trouble shooting with me, they said I have to do a harware update or whatever they call and that I woul lose all my data in the process. ...devasted..Hmmm... I also wanted to return it to them since it's still under one yr but they said they only give 21days...any suggestion on how i can save my data so i can reload them after the hardware reconfiguration? The only software i have are the desktop version of the programs i installed on my computer. The handheld version , I think I installed directly to the dell axim. PLS help...thanx!

I don't believe it's possible to install software directly to your PDA; you must have done this via your desk top machine. But that isn't really your question. One of the best sources of advice I've found for the Axim is
www.aximsite.com
If you can't get help there, I don't know where else you can. It's a very comprehensive site. Don't you have your software installed on your SD card? That's the safest place to put it. If so, it's in no danger. If in doubt, remove the SD card before you do the update. The Axim was also the first PDA to feature a nonvolatile memory which eliminated most concerns about lost data; don't know if this applies in your situation.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

if you got the software online you can download it from them again.

If it was skyscape, you might have to contact them with new codes.

BTW, never delete the install software for your pda on your computer at home, the programs are not that large, just keep a folder with them just in case.

I bought the softwares from skyscape last year and downloaded from their website via my desktop. I can't find them on my desktop and never really deleted anything. I remember using a code for each of them from skyscape. The only ones I see now are the ones I downloaded for the desktop. Anyway, thanx, dell sent me another axim because mine was not even powering on after they trouble shooted it with me.I'm still trying to get skyscape to give me another code so I can download the softwares again.

Re: Need some advice about dell axim51v pls..

I have the first dell axiom got back in 03, the only prob ive had is the batteries are discharging quicker than they used to, make sure you ck your back up battery and do a back up copy on your desktop, and make sure you disable your keys for auto on, mine used to turn on if ya hit the calender key and i got to wk and and my dell was dead, i was a little mad. def learned from that,, now that i have vista my dell isnt compatable with my new computer so have to keep my old laptop for syncing
