iPod Touch : What size is best?

Has any purchased the iPod Touch and installed any of the free PDA programs like micromedex, epocrates, etc?

Which size would you recommend to purchase?

In addition besides micromedex, do you know of any other free nursing programs (applications) that one can download and place onto the iPod Touch?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Re: iPod Touch : What size is best?

Get the smallest one without updates (as the latest update that costs 10 dollars includes all previous updates).

The unit is made to store and show movies, program size is trivial. The largest program I've seen yet is 30mb. The smallest touch could store over 266 of these programs.

If you want to store a lot of movies and songs you can go bigger, but if you want it as a PDA, 8 Gigs is more then plenty.

If your like me, you'll be using the unit a lot as a mobile browser and email checker. Wi-Fi up the homestead.

Make sure you get a USB power block. The cord that comes with the unit charges off a computer, but I like the option of wall or car charging. One not made from apple is going to be a lot cheaper.

I highly recommend a DLO leather hip case folio. The screen is glass and near unscratchable, but the smooth mirror like back gets scratched by pillows. Plus, leather gives shock protection.

The applications are a bit scant right now. Everyone is developing for the unit though.

My favorite program so far is Flash My Brain. It's awesome for studying on the go! (Just don't use the & symbol on a card right now)

Re: iPod Touch : What size is best?

Wow! Thank you for the advice! I'm so very grateful that you took the time to share!

Whew! Glad to hear that buying a lower model (also less expensive by a few $100's!) is good enough.

Did not realize how sensitive these units are. So you prefer the leather with glass. Okay I'll try to find that. What about the synthetic rubber. Not strong enough I'm thinking to cushion and protect it?

Yes! I'll definately be like you [If your like me, you'll be using the unit a lot as a mobile browser and email checker. Wi-Fi up the homestead.] I just don't see myself having time to watch movies. Gee, weren't those the days?! LOL! Having free time...

OOOOOOOH! http://www.flashmybrain.com/ Super cool program! Wow I am SO GRATEFUL that you showed me this program. WOW! This program works not only on itouch but on the mac too AND I can output the cards. And there's a game to learn. Way too cool!

I don't understand what you mean by: "Just don't use the & symbol on a card right now". Meaning that it will confuse the program? Or will the program try to combine cards when using the "&" symbol?

Have you found any online communities, groups or blogs that you find useful for studying? Or to share flashmybrain programs (cards that other users have created?)

Any other programs for the itouch you think would be useful as a nursing student in class and during clinicals?

Thank you so much in advance for helping me! Words cannot express how greatful I am! THANK YOU!

Re: iPod Touch : What size is best?

I was referring to the iPod's glass screen.

I'm not sure if I can post links but I'll try...

When I use the & symbol in Flash My Brain it crashes on the touch. Like if I wrote "Gastrectomy & Vitamin B12" on a card it would crash. I'm sure it will be fixed soon, the programs only been out a day on the iPod and it has already had an update.

Card set sharing is free and comes with the program. I know I saw several practice NCLEX sets when I was browsing the online library.

It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it.

Re: iPod Touch : What size is best?

LOL! And Methylene, you've come to this wisdom how? LOL!

Seriously, I couldn't imagine why such a small PDA (in HD size) cost almost the same as an itouch that has almost 3-4 times the amount of size!

Now that I know the apps are so small (duh for me not checking into that first) it's almost wiser to purchase an itouch rather than a pda.
